a perfect example of garbage bottom feeding journalism.

In the article itself there does not appear to be any reference to 110000 ton super carrier. the article is full of recycled garbage from other news items.

in the internet link it referenced, the site itself is a garbage site with recycled material to fill the space, and still does not have any solid reference to 110000 ton super carrier.

this is the kind of material that fans the china threat story and lowest form of yellow journalism.

and the disgusting thing is... this thing showed up on google-news, china section , current;y the 1st story from the top.

clearly RT wants a fluff piece so it can game the google news system on a slow weekend news cycle and gain notority and site traffic.

disgusting.

Not a chance.

No named sources. No actual project referred to. No official CCP announcement.

I do not buy it at all.

The Central Military Commission apparently did indicate last month that they would be building two conventionally powered STOBAR carriers similar to their existing carrier simultaneously at Dalian and Shanghai.

The sources quoted in that report are much more credible, but it too is not "offical.".

Duowei News said:
China will construct two conventionally powered aircraft carriers in Dalian and Shanghai between 2014 and 2015, according to China's Central Military Commission as reported by Duowei News, an outlet run by overseas Chinese.

Under the Commission's Project 048, China aims to establish three carrier battle groups by 2020 so that all three major fleets of the PLA Navy will be able to carry out missions with the full support of an aircraft carrier. The two new Type 001A indigenous carriers will be updated versions of China's first aircraft carrier, the Liaoning, which was originally a Soviet-era Admiral Kuznetsov-class aircraft carrier purchased from Ukraine in 1998. They will also likely be designed with a ski-jump ramp, according to Duowei.

Sources said that the General Equipment Department of the PLA has already signed a contract with the Beijing-based China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation to build the two carriers. The price of the two vessels is estimated to be worth US$9 billion.

China has yet to decide whether its J-31 stealth fighter will replace the J-15 to become the country's next generation carrier-based fighter, according to sources. The J-31 fighter entered service before the J-15, and is able to land or take off from the flight deck of the Liaoning. Sources said that a decision will only be made after the construction of the nation's second and third aircraft carriers is completed. This will give the PLA more time to think about the type of carrier-based fighter it will need in the future, the sources added.

Has anyone actually found the original CMC statement yet?

Anyway, back to reality:

These new pictures sure don't give much away, and no sign of escorts either. There is a CCTV report showing a few helicopters taking off and landing, but no J-15s. Of course, we can't rule out what they're actually doing out off Hainan given the scantness of these releases.

Possibly CIC? Or just one of the carrier's many control rooms for whatever purposes. The consoles don't look like the typical current generation CIC consoles. I like the exposed overhead wiring and piping too, means easier to maintain and control damage if hit.

Somewhere in the island, I presume, possibly looking aft.

Nice pics, and those are some fairly rough seas, coming that high aboard.

Also like the shots of the internal spaces. Looks very squared away.

I really don;t care too much for this type of fear mongering articles you see all over the internet. Not only are they inaccurate but I believe the author writes it to stoke fears and sensationalize things in hopes of increasing readership or garnering attention to his articles. Someone like that to me lacks professional integrity. Unfortunately those folks are a dime a dozen on all sides.

What are those white rectangular flap like things on the flight deck for?

They're painted markings, but I don't know why they're there.

Edit: actually, looking at other photos, I'm not sure if they're markings or physical protrusions.

I don't see any radar screens or glass charts, no one's wearing a headset and the place doesn't look super secure either. I think there is a high probability that this isn't the CIC but a ship internal operations control room. Note the LED board at the back, I think it looks like some kind of a fire warning system.

I wish we could see the CIC .. it could tell us a lot about the Liaoning.

This'll wash that Bohai Sea snot off the old girl, first time we've had a picture of them being real sailors, and I would also remind everyone that they are still learning the ins and outs of a large vessels handling, she is getting the work-out that will definitely make every breath a sigh of relief when she's out of these seas, after a few blows, they will be sailors. The J-15s are likely below if they are still on-board. She looks great, I wonder what they think of her now, I'm sure the poor old Varyag is a distant memory: Her Name Is LIAONING.

I'm smiling at all the arguments we had about what they would name her, now that's "who" she is. I'd love to see the video of this little trip, good show. Oh and I watch the sinking of the "Bismark" Saturday morning, it was awesome. brat
