Let me just start off by saying that I feel terrible every time I hear news like this or of some Chinese bank freezing Russian transactions. I want to hear China tell the US to F- off, rescind all our diplomats and order all theirs off of Chinese territory in 24 hours. They ask us to curb Russia? Ask them if they've become mentally retarded from drinking East Palestine water; why the hell would we betray our main ally for our main adversary?? When ever they try to talk or suggest communication, send them a middle finger emoji. But that would probably kick off a reckoning that would be lucky to not see WWIII.
I'm not very good or slick diplomat. Chinese diplomacy is what I would say the most successful in the world, and I say this in lieu of all the seemingly embarrassing things that China did, make Westerners laugh by saying they hurt Chinese people's feelings or allow countries out of the doghouse without correcting thier behavior, etc... I say this because the big picture result is that China is the only nation in history to rise above the West by draining the wealth and technology of the West, making them miss their oppertunities to suppress China when they still could, all the while remaining at our core, an enemy of the West. Not even Russia could do this and Russia is a Caucasian country that would have had a much easier time navigating Western politics than China just due to genetic similarity. What China achieved took some previously unseen levels fancy footwork and a ton of successful deception, a far cry from satisfying the knee-jerk reactions of hot heads like me and likely you.
The current situation is that as time passes on, China becomes stronger and the West weaker, comparatively, meaning that any Ragnorok kind of reckoning should be pushed into the future at China's advantage. China's current actions do that. They drain the West of the determination needed to initiate that conflict now, before all of their strengths have become weaknesses. Despite China being the obvious and the main supply of Russian power to continue its fight in Ukraine, China has kept the West unwilling to declare China and Russia as enemies in the Ukraine war but rather bribing/begging/negotiating with us for micro-actions and detail shifts with no change to the overall theme. Suffice to say that although although is it oftentimes not satisfying to laymen, China's diplomatic strategy is greatly to the long term favor of our nation and the detriment of our enemies.
