Any AR is really about preparation. If China were to do it today it could most likely still achieve it, but regaining TW isn't just an end to itself, it's also a means to a greater end, which is "the rejuvenation of the Chinese Nation". China has quite expressly said many times that nothing can and should stop that process. What does that mean in reality? It just means China wants to be as ready as possible, both from a military, economic and diplomatic and legal point of view. We're all familiar with the military developments on this forum. CV 003 and Type 076 are still in sea trial. This landing barge thing just emerged. Numbers still building up for J-20s and J-35s. Legally and diplomatically speaking, since about 1-2 years ago China has started asking friendly countries to expressly back reunification in joint statements and this number has now grown to something like 70 plus countries. China is also in the process of building up its economy to be as sanctions proof as possible, especially when it comes to semiconductors building capabilities. It also helps that TW and the US are doing absolutely shit in preparing a response, like they're not even doing a slow job, it's going against their goal.
Give it a few more years. All current indicators are pointing to some kind of a military action. It may not be a full-scale landing war, but something is coming.
