PLA Strategy in a Taiwan Contingency

There is a little open secret that both US and China know very well, i.e. ROC military has been infiltrated by spies from Mainland China since they day when KMT retreated to Taiwan till today.

That's why US will not sell top of the line weapon to Taiwan, and also ROC's weapon specs are probably well studied in fine details by Mainland China.

Crazy, stop funding rebel that fights you is such a crazy idea! Nobody would be having this conversation anywhere else. Yet here we are.

I suspect some sort of corruption going on that led to this irrational policy.

That decision isn’t about making money or corruption, it was an attempt to avoid AR by promoting economic interdependence and cultural exchange to get past all the propaganda of Taiwan and the western MSM.

It is working to a degree based on the millions of Taiwanese that live and work in mainland China.

It also gives China a proxy vote as those in Taiwan who benefit from trade with China should vote against policies that will damage cross strait relations and thus their own economic well being.

It is proving to be insufficient to totally offset all the propaganda and the sheer stupidity of many on the island. But it was a project worth doing.

I personally see the revoking of favourable trading terms as a sign that AR is becoming inevitable, as it means that Beijing is giving up attempts to peacefully sway the people of Taiwan and is gearing up for AR.

You'd think it would work, but the effect is minimal. 民进党 controls 90% of the media and people are too conditioned/brainwashed. Those people working in China don't dare to speak their true opinions on China when they return to Taiwan for visit.

It's not news, it's been known for years. One reason why Taiwan only spends about 2.5% GDP on its military. You'd think they'd spend a lot more given the threat they'd face but they know that if the US does not intervene then it's all over in a matter of weeks or days. Personally I think much of ROCmil would jack it in as soon as the first ZBD05 hits the beach.

Is the US trying to establish an airbase in Bangladesh too? An airbase in bangladesh will allow the US to bomb interior parts of the mainland(that is if the airbase survives the first couple hours if the war, lol), it would also allow for better surveillance.

China needs to keep an eye on Bangladesh it is a critical nation. The US meddling in the recent elections show that their eyes are on it.

These people are the silent majority who favours the status quo.

If Taiwan does push China into AR, the build ip to the conflict should be done as a case study in the dangers of democracy on how malicious foreign powers can manipulate people into voting for their own doom.

Wanwanese "protestors": Aren't we suppose to get free food at 12?

Meme Island

In the early/mid 2000's, there were daily FLG protests and counter-protests in front of the Chinese consulate in San Francisco. Both sides were paying people to come to the protests/counter-protests and providing them with free lunch. Some old retired Chinese immigrants with time to kill would go to the consulate area each morning and pick which side to protest for that day based on the lunch options being provided.
