The monetary sum is not the issue. The main issue is the cavalier attitude displayed by the DPP after human lives were lost.
Wanwan always acts like that.
  • They ef up
  • Mainland gets angry
  • Wanwan continues its bs
  • Mainland starts taking action
  • Wanwan starts whining "we are all Chinese, family, brothers. Why act like this."
  • Mainland stops/cools off action
  • Wanwan "haha got you, independence tomorrow, Chinese history books banned from school!"
  • Repeat

Looks like Taiwan coast guards in Kinmen may face the possibility of forced to take permanent leaves if China Coast Guard, China Fishery and China MSA decide to take control of all water surrounding Kinmen islands.
Looks like it's not just Kinmen, they are now reporting this:

CCG 2303, 2304 and 2305 (all around 2000 tons) were spotted to the east of Taiwan near Hualien on 27/02, about 53nm off the coast, ROCCGA sent out a 500 ton ship to monitor and during the stand off the CCG ships entered the 24nm restricted zone around Taiwan main island itself.

So in other words China straight took over all waters around Taiwan besides 24nm zone?

The interesting part is Knox class being called out. This is a naval vessel. The question would be if China would pull put any naval vessel to play along.

Well no, not took over, at least not yet, the whole process of establishing a new normal will take a while.

IIRC there is always at least one 054A stationed on the east side of Taiwan at all time.

It is no so simple. If Taiwan follow the example of Ukraine, they will do the next:

Radars of air defence in passive mode until the plane is seing visually, then activate and shoot. This minimise the radiation of the air defence and make more difficult the suppresion.

Air defenses will be placed close to civilian buildings. And in Taiwan those civilian buildings will be full of chinese civilians. China faces there the same problem than Russia in Ukraine. Russians consider ukranians as their people, chinese consider taiwanese as their people. Civilian loses are more painful in this wys

There will be thousands mandpads from the top of civilian buildings to shoot at planes flying low. Again to fireback to the people with manpads will be painful because they are in civilian buildings full of your people

The goal will not be to "win" but to inflict maximum damage to Chinese air force, to make chinese society to feel bad to kill its people and to maximise the anti chinese narrative.

In my view China has some advantages against Russia. Taiwan does not have so many air defences as Ukraine, they lack fanatical groups like Azov, and the land is small.
But the overall picture will be the same

Chinese view Taiwanese who dont see themselves as chinese as traitors. Worse than non-chinese.
