Once again, called it. People here sometimes tunnel vision on military aspects, but Chinese government has a country to run. They are very sensitive to public opinions. The patrol only serves the military salami slicing. There also needs a resolution on calming public opinion. This is contrary to the stereotype of "China is authoritarian so they will ignore domestic outrage". From what I can tell the outcry this time is a lot bigger than Pelosi visit. A harsh sentence on the offending officer one way or other is really the least risky option here.

Obviously. Nothing was wounded except maybe pride during the Pelosi fiasco, but two Chinese citizens actually died this time.
