no its the blank firing attachment. Blanks cant cycle a automatic or semiautomatic weapon designed for use of conventional bullets they need a modified barrel with a smaller diameter to produce the proper gas pressure. They get that in movies by replacing the barrel. In real life military service well using laser combat simulation gear they use a BFA.
So, as no lasers could be seen attached, these guys are not really in a shooting practice or competition then? Probably just posing for photos? They are staying far too close for it to be a picture during a real exercise session, one grenade could have taken out all of them.
I remember a few other pictures where brass catchers were used in simulation. Given the dry grass it might be there in a attempt to prevent a hot spent case from igniting the dry grass and starting a brush fire. Or it might be so that they can recycle the brass or so they don't have to send someone out to collect it later.
India uses NATO 5.56 mm. It is possible that these bullets they use brass casings too, just like the standard NATO ones. Brass is more expensive than steel (the material of 5.58 casings). That may be the reason they want to catch and recycle their casings.
