I think they should have kept the original trigger guard for the compact. It offered a convenient location for the shooter to place his hand and away from the barrel, well still being controllable and easy to maneuver in close quarters. Its the same concept as the grip on the FN P90. Heck a new American maker has now even copied that feature. At the shot show just a few weeks back Desert tech showed off their MRD C bullpup that featured full mil spec rails, a 10.5"barrel, forward ejection and a modular pistol grip that featured a enlarged trigger guard similar to the one on the QBZ95.

the new guard has me a bit concerned that a shooter in the heat of the moment might place his hand in the wrong place and get hurt.
this could be alleviated with the addition of a simple guard taking the form of say a sling point or a barrier that would give the shooter a easy to identify point of reference.

TE not to get too OT but what do you think of all the polymer 1911s everyone and their gradnma seem to be making these days? a ton of em at shot show.

I am not a purest, When I see The slogan "Glock Perfection" I laugh. lets face it nothing is ever perfect. And it's a American Tradition to "Hot Rod" to take something that is stock and rebuild it to be uniquely ours.
The M1911 is over one hundred years old. The fact that is's more popular then ever is testament to John M Browning building a really good gun but Even Browning modified the design to create the M1911A1. So when I see modifications like polymer frames I just see more proof that Browning was well ahead of his time. Polymer framed pistols are nothing new the HK VP70 the worlds first Polymer framed pistol dates back to 1970, Polymer framed .45ACP hand guns are nothing new. Custom 1911 frames and slides in exotic materials like Titanium and Damascus Steel for years and polymer parts have been used in Race gun versions for over a decade So I don't see any technical issue nor any reason not to accept it. Now would I buy? maybe first i have to shake hands and see if i like.

Also, note the 12.7mm Gatling and the new helmet and body armor.

Think the body armor isn't anything new, the PLA have exhibited their modern body armor a few years back, just that they hardly seen wearing their Level II and III body armor, mostly just webbing or tactical vest.

Also, the helmet doesn't seem to be "new", not enough detail in the image to tell it from the kind they're using now (not like the MICH helmet you can tell right away), the only addition is the NVG mount similar to the type use by the US forces.

But what interest me is the gatling...seems that they finally get their heads around to make proper machine guns, probably thanks to the increased availability of light vehicles, turning the PLA from "foot-mobiles" towards more "mechanized-mobiles".

Correction.

BBS confirmed that this is a 14.5mm Gatling.

Which is even better, although I am not that sure, since there was the info that the PLA wanted to do away with that caliber and unify everything to 5.8mm, 12.7mm and 30mm.

Aim at the Canadian market, China introduces the newest export type-97; the T97NSR. According to oversea feedback, Canadian users basically are satisfied with the modification but users also express that there are some drawback of the T97NSR too. For example, the changing of the magazine, the safety button and the installation position of the optical aiming device is too high, ect.

IMO, without optical sight, this gun looks weird.

That rail kit is made by a Canadian company IIRC, and that's a superior alternative to the original design if you ask me. And sure thing it'd look weird without any sight, but you can say the same thing to may other modern rifles that also sports full length Picatinny rail as well, and all you need to do is to install a set of MBUS sight or EOTec holo sight or ACOG to rectify the "weirdness"...
