So this is an x-post from CDF... and I think this definitely constitutes breaking news of some sort!
First of all, does anyone remember a CGI from a few years back in 2014 of a supposed "057"? It was roundly dismissed though praised for being a good quality CGI.
Well, apparently CSSC have just offered a ship model that looks almost exactly like that CGI in many ways, at Pakistan's IDEAS expo, but instead of being a "frigate" (or 054A successor) it seems to be an improved version of the C28A corvette with an integrated mast MFR and VLS (via henry k)
The original CGI is below. Note the similar/identical main mast and even side arrays, and the positioning of the HQ-10 CIWS, slant AShM launchers, and even small details which are similar like the positioing of the VLS on a slightly elevated platform, and even the ESM mast location on the smoke stack. Hell, even the windows on the deckhouse structure look identical between the CGI and the model
One major difference is that the CSSC model has a 76mm gun rather than the 130mm gun, and instead of side mounted autocannons they have CIWS instead... and we can't see if there's an aft VLS bank as well like in the CGI... But in the scheme of things the similarities are astonishing.
More importantly, what does this mean for the original CGI from 2014? Was the original artist able to view an official schematic or model for this ship and thus able to produce a near identical CGI nearly two years before this official model of a real product was viewed to the public!
What does this mean for the artist? Does that mean we should take his CGIs maybe a bit more seriously? Or was this just a one-off?? I'm still in disbelief.
