Well it is a real sub but I don't see why people say it is a coastal sub. It doesn't look much smaller than 039C.
In fact it looks like a mini Astute class.
Length is estimated at ca 50 metres, you can see the people standing on it for scale. It is certainly notably smaller than an 039 series submarine.
Disappointing that a brand new submarine class hasn't generated more traffic on here - I suppose many posters just come to spout BS about politics or whatever. Anyway, I would like to speculate that this is a Lithium Ion battery powered SSK without AIP, similar to the sail-less sub it appears to be based on, and the latest Japanese boats.
I guess the reason, it’s an export-oriented submarine, not for PLA itself and also does not have many advanced features
I think PLAN fans are just totally focused on carriers, destroyers and nuke subs at this time. SSK is a bit of a 牛夫人 these days.
