You mean ZDK03 style same like PAF.

So the break down will be:

KJ2000 - 10
ZDK03 - 15
KJ200 - 20

Between 45 -50 AEW&C aircrafts.

Similar to ZDK03 but different radar, ZDK03 uses rotating array similar to AWACS but the new Y9 based AEW&C will have a smaller version of KJ2000's radar, meaning fixed array arranged in a triangle inside the radom.

How does that help your argument? Russia is larger and has more, thus China is smaller and should have just as many? I'm confused as to how that doesn't contradict your argument.

Okay, lemme simplify that for ya. Given China's size, a minimum number of large AWACS, ought to be around 25-30. Russia, which is larger than China and America, and which ought to have more AWACS to monitor its airspace, at least has around 25 AWACS. Where Russia, who has been struggling until the oil prices went up, has the ability to maintain 25 AWACS. Comparatively, China has been doing better than Russia, economically. So one would've thought that China would invest in building its AWACS fleet, something which so important for an Air-Force of any country. But more so, with China, the second largest economic power in the world.

Probably he's referring to the land area. I did a quick google on their land area and got this.


China: 9,707,000 km²

Russia: 17,080,000 km²

Probably he got the idea of 4 times by looking at a flat map rather than a globe map.

Looks like Chinese AWACS production is in full swing, A fleet of 6 x Y-8W aircraft look to be delivered to the Chinese navy, a naval Y-8J is also in the foreground

Now a fleet of balanced bean AWACS is equipping the PLAAF and the PLAN, more than dozen have probably been produced, very encouraging

Those six Y-8W are obviously already in service with 2 Naval Avn Div 4 Regt Laiyang, matching the six AWACS shelters at the base.
