because...

They both look real to me. And just three days earlier a bunch of pictures were released of a new KJ-200 under construction.

I guess AWACs are the flavor of the week.

Those are not really for the KJ-200. All these pictures are related together, and I believe the earlier pictures are for this KJ-2000.

After some zooming and contrasting of the pic I have still some doubts... obviously the guy shot this from quite a distance so this would explain graining and degradation effects.

Most startling though is the little house or barn appearing beneath the left wing just left of the outer engine: that is what it looks like in the northern China countryside!:D The landscape would look odd for China at first glance but indeed this kind of mix of coniferes and deciduous trees is quite common in the north/north central. :)

(So I would suppose the scene is indeed in China and not Russia but I have to admit, dear crobato at first glance this was too striking to believe!:coffee: )

To be honest that first picture does not look suspicious at all. You were just too quick to pass on judgement that you had no business in doing and creating confusion.

To be honest, there are only two places in China that is capable of building a large plane, transport or bomber. One is Harbin AC, and the other is Shanxi AC. HAC did the H-6 before it was transferred to Xian, and Shanxi did the Y-8.

Both are in northern regions. Harbin in the northeast, a region full of coinerferous trees and Shanxi is north-central.

Good point. At first glance on the pictures I thought it was more of the ARJ-21 assembly pics.

Me too! It's been reported the ARJ-21 was being rolled out, and so looking at the initial batch of pictures showing the interior (with passenger airline-like windows) I thought that's what this was.

What a pleasant surprise!

Right on target crobato, :D
the ´thing´has been ´shot´ with high probability in the vicinity of Harbin approximately 400-450 km from the russian border since the landscape would not fit very well for Xian region.:coffee:
