ST MARINE Celebrates the Interim Delivery of Third Patrol Vessel RNOV SADH and The Naming of the Fourth Patrol Vessel RNOV KHASSAB
Singapore – Singapore Technologies Marine Ltd (ST Marine), the marine arm of Singapore Technologies Engineering Ltd (ST Engineering), today held the Interim Delivery and Acceptance ceremony for the third Patrol Vessel (PV), RNOV Sadh, together with the Naming Ceremony for the fourth PV, RNOV Khassab, built for the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO). The Guest-of-Honour was the Commander of the Royal Navy of Oman, Rear Admiral (RADM) Abdullah bin Khamis bin Abdullah al-Raisi.
The contract for the design and build of the four Al-Ofouq class of PVs was awarded by the Ministry of Defence of the Sultanate of Oman in April 2012. It was the largest defence export contract in ST Engineering’s history. These four vessels will replace the Sultanate’s current four Seeb class PVs commissioned in the early 1980s.
The Al-Ofouq class of PVs measures 75m in length and displaces approximately 1,250 tonnes. Armed with a modern weapon and combat management system the PVs are most suited for a variety of maritime and homeland security missions such as undertaking extended surveillance patrols of the Sultanate Exclusive Economic Zone.

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Yemeni army and popular forces continued to inflict heavy losses on the Saudi army by destroying their military equipment and hardware and shot down another military helicopter in the province of Hajjah.
"The Yemeni forces hit an Apache helicopter in Midi region in Hajjah province," the Arab-language media outlets quoted informed Yemen sources as saying on Friday.
The Yemeni army and the popular forces have intensified their attacks against the Saudi forces and their military positions in recent week by destroying their warships and helicopters.
In a relevant development in late December, an ammunition depot and two Apache helicopters of the pro-Saudi forces were also destroyed in the Yemeni ballistic missile strikes in Southern Yemen.
In late August, the Yemeni forces downed another Saudi Apache helicopter in al-Khubah district of Jizan Province, on the Yemeni-Saudi border.
Both the pilot and co-pilot were killed in the attack.
From:But the dismal picture is that the Yemeni war is coming home, finally – exposing the ineptness of Saudi armed forces to defend the country’s borders from predatory strikes from the Houthi coalition forces wreaking revenge.
On December 21, ballistic missiles were fired at the compound of Aramco Oil Company in Jazan Economic City, 150 kilometers from the border with Yemen. On December 28, Qaher-1 ballistic missiles were again fired at Aramco. (Qahaer-1 is the updated version of a Russian surface-to-surface missile.)
On December 23, Al-Faisal military base in Khamis Mushait region of Asir province came under rocket attack. On December 24, the al-Anad military base in Lahij province was hit by Lochka rockets. On December 27, Saudi National Guards Base in the southern city of Najran was hit with ballistic missiles. The Yemeni side claims that within the week, 550 Saudi troops were killed.
Plainly put, military skills are lacking despite expensive training imparted by western instructors, and morale is sapping. Suffice it to say, Salman’s reputation as a military mind has come under cloud.
Iran says warns U.S. warship to leave waters near Strait of Hormuz

DUBAI (Reuters) - Iran's navy warned a U.S. warship on Wednesday to leave waters near the Strait of Hormuz where the Iranians were testing submarines, destroyers and missile launchers, news agencies reported.
The commander of Iran's fleet, Rear-Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, told Tasnim news agency the U.S. ship was trying to collect information in the Sea of Oman - an area close to the Strait, a vital oil and gas shipping route - and said it left quickly after the alert.
There was no immediate reaction from Washington which this month joined other world powers in lifting sanctions on the Islamic Republic after Iran agreed to curtail its nuclear program.
In the days before that deal, Iran briefly detained 10 U.S. sailors after their boats entered its waters because of what they said was a navigational error.
"It was predictable that the U.S. warship would approach the area to collect information on (our) military operations. So we warned them twice in the morning ... to keep their distance from the exercise area and keep clear of our missile range for their own safety," Sayyari was quoted as saying by Tasnim.
He said Iran had acted in line with the international convention that a country should clear out all other military and trade ships from an area before starting any exercise.
"The maneuver aims to show Iranian forces' strength both in ensuring security on the seas and in defending the country's sea borders in Hormuz Strait, Sea of Oman and north of the Indian Ocean," Sayyari was quoted as saying by state news agency IRNA.
Tasnim news agency reported on Wednesday that Iran had given warnings to other Western ships on Tuesday, and they had all left the area.

The recent US/Iran boat incident is also a reminder that presence is insufficient when your adversary knows that you are unwilling to exercise power when it is needed. That action wasn't simply about commandeering two tiny boats. It was challenging the might of the US and the administration spin it as a good outcome. The problem always reside at the top and so is the solution. It is not posture nor presence but resolve.
