But Wang Chuqin is not mentally focused enough. Lin Shidong is even fatter than Fan zhendong.
To be honest, I don't really care if Harimoto becomes the best player in the world. He is ethnically Chinese. He would take medals away from team China though...

Enjoy your time this Olympics, because man, we are heading for an even shittier decade of Olympics after this, with US hosting the 2032 and Australia hosting the 2032. (and imagine if India actually gets the 2036)

Expect to see a ton of manufactured controversy regarding Chinese athletes, racism, even more "new events" for white countries etc

The most funny thing is Zheng Qinwen was supposed to be the female in mixed doubles. But she was doing too well in the singles so she ditched the mixed doubles. Wang Xinyu who was already out of the tournament was about to book a flight home but was delayed by the expensive pricing. She then received a phone call asking if she wants to be in the mixed doubles as a substitute.

To be fair it's probably a better this way. Zheng is not a good doubles player. Wang on the other hand has won the French Open as a doubles player so she's actually better for the job.

Let's hope both don't choke on their final matches. I mean they came so far already so why don't just see it through to the end?
Hahaha interesting. I knew about the switch but didn’t realize Wang was so close to leaving Paris but delayed only due to expensive tickets. Even pro athletes gets this problem like us lol.

Not only cuz Zheng did well but also she came off a gruelling 3 set match in singles to advance to next round so it was good to give up on mixed dpubles. It’s takes too much on the body. Many of the top tennis players do this when playing both singles and doubles. sometimes after tough singles match or to prevent injury they will give up on doubles to concentrate on singles. Especially if they aren’t specialist doubles player like Zheng.

Wang is the better doubles player but China seem to like the combination of Zheng and Zhang. Both are Chinas top singles players in female and male. They dun play together at grand slams though. The only time I saw them play mixed is the warm up tournamen in Aus before the Aus open. But that was a different kind of tournament where players play for their countries. It’s not usual. Zheng usually plays singles only. Zhang plays singles and doubles. Interestingly his next opponent in final is the Czech, Machac who plays doubles with him on the men’s tour lol.

I think moving on China should let Wang and Zhang play mixed doubles together Instead.

How come Fan Zhendong needed so many sets to beat this harimoto guy? Fan is the only Asian in the semi finals. He should be very careful.
Bro, you are still thinking like team China should brush aside everyone off and dominate in TT. That’s not the case anymore. Harimoto is a tough opponent. He is in top ten. He has beaten the top Chinese players before. He was also considered a top prodigy when he first appeared in the competitive scene. International table tennis is very cut throat now. Especially on the men’s side. Very competitive. But even Indian female players have beaten top Chinese female player recently In smaller competition. That created a lot of uproar in China social media.

On the other hand, winning on the enemy's soil is glorious.

The thing is I've been planning to go and attend an Olympics in person for once, but now I sadly have to wait a gruelling 12 or 16 years because I don't want to support the economies of those countries.

Anyway, I hope this makes China switch their strategy away from pure numbers of gold because you can't win against all the rigging and focuses more on marketing and creating personas for Chinese athletes instead.

Some Chinese athletes just look really punchable in front of international audience while they're a completely different person on Chinese social media. Invest more in their appearance and teach them to act cute and be likeable. Create instagram pages for them. Focus on being more wholesome. And maybe replace people less often so people can actually fan on someone. Etc

Afterall, it's soft power all the same

I watched a few events just now, and there is definitely an issue of nerves going on with Chinese players.

Zhang Qiongyue was leading in the Women's 3 positions rifle event, and she did so poorly in the final stretch. Like an 8.x in the final shots, and a 8.5 in shoot off.

In Badminton Women's doubles, Chen QingChen and Jia Yi Fan were a bunch of nerves, never seen so many mistakes. It's fortunate for them that their opposition was also a nervous bunch, else they were about to crash out.

If you want to attend an Olympic Games in person without supporting the US economy, you could fly to LA on a Chinese airline, stay at a house owned by a Chinese-American powered by off-grid Chinese solar panels and BYD energy storage systems, and eat exclusively at Chinese restaurants during your stay.
