Looking at the rerun, I see now that after Pan's victory, Chalmers and the German (as well as the Romanian and likely more) came to pay respect to him in the pool. Just comes to show once again, there is no soft power, only the radiating effects of hard power.
They can bitch, complain and cope all they want, China’s rise is unstoppable. China will beat the respect into them through victory after victory. This gold has shocked and rattled the West more than any other gold. 100 freestyle is the most competitive event because so many people can do the 100 freestyle which means the depth of talent is huge. To win Olympic gold with a world record in the final is monumental. Chinese man is the fastest swimmer on the planet!
Yup. There are only winners and losers. People will suck up to or curry favor with winners and ignore, bully, or look down on losers. "Soft power" is just a bullshit term that describes this social effect. Soft power is just the shadow that is being cast by a dominant amount of hard power. People who confuse these two things will never have either.
