to be held a few hours from now. Pan Zhanle (PRC) is in the coveted Lane 4 because he was fastest in the Semifinals. Kyle Chalmers (AUS) and Nandor Nemeth (HUN) are either side of him in Lanes 3 and 5 because they recorded the second- and third-fastest times in the Semis, and so on. The swimmers that qualified slowest have been assigned Lanes 1 and 8.
You see it in the initial qualifying heats as well.

China has no one to blame but themselves. China on paper is better than Japan, but they did not execute well, allowing Japan to take over.
Unless China is wayyyy better than any other nations like China is in badminton, diving, table tennis, etc then this kind of accidents will happen again. China need to be wayyy better to reduce every chance of fucking up.

Are they allowed to do this? I’m reading some reports not enough proteins is given to the athletes. It’s a lot of plant food and vegan. The Australian team is providing their athletes with their own meals
If all athletes are to be treated as equals, they should all be required to live the Olympic village and not allow rich countries to send their athletes to stay in better conditions because then can.

I think it was in the Atlanta Olympics where there was an African-American swimmer that didn't make it on the USA team so he went to represent a Central American country's team. He won the gold medal beating all the Americans competing against him. And if I recall correctly he wasn't swimming the middle lanes. I think he was in the second or third lane from the side. How could that happen where he didn't qualify for the US team? It's like in women's gymnastics when the Karolyis were in control of picking the US team. You had female gymnasts that were better than other gymnasts and not picked to be on the US team. And now because they're not in authority anymore, you're seeing more minorities on the team. The present US team won gold on the team event with only one white female on the team. There's always a factor down the line where performance doesn't play a role in picking.

Yes you have some posters in here suggesting psychological games are being played against Chinese swimmers so they don't win. I'm sure Western countries are scoffing at the suggestion because there's no illegality in doing that when you have like the British demanding that rape in the virtual reality world be treated the same if someone was raped in real life. They claim the same trauma is being inflicted on the victim. Yes pick and choose what's illegal or not depending on the situation.

You cannot 100% prevent errors though. Even in table tennis , the world no 1 was upset today. In real time competition the athletes face tremendous pressure both from external and internal sources.

Anyway Zhang going into the Olympics wasn’t in great form. He even had to withdraw in domestic competition for Olympic selection cuz of a persistent injury. There was always a chance it will come back to haunt him. Moreover he had to compete in all 6 rotations for the team competition couple days ago. I really feel bad for him. But this shit happens.

The weird thing was the “wrong” Japanese won lol. The best Japanese gymnast is hashimoto and he placed even lower. I didn’t want to watch the final afraid of jinxing the results but I was shocked he didn’t even medal upon checking. Usually it would mean Zhang or Xiao should get gold but no one saw the other Japanese guy coming through. Alas Xiao should be retiring after this. Feel bad he missed out again on gold.

While it is not perfect, denying more gold medal to USA is second to China getting more golds. I think USA is underperforming in swimming so far with 2 golds (11 golds in Tokyo) with around 1/3 of the event. But quite sure it will pick up women 800 and 1500 soon
