Olympics 2024 - discussion thread

I just watched the first few minutes of the final BBC broadcast covering the closing ceremony. They started out with a 3 minute montage comprising of highlights from the events, and I did not see one highlight involving a Chinese athlete. It is absolutely disgusting that the second place country is not even given one second of air-time. This basically just points out to me that it doesn't matter how many golds China gets, it will never be shown on Western mainstream media.
Chinese athletes are not very well known outside of Sinosphere. I believe that's part of the issue as well. I'm sure if someone like Yao Ming was in the Olympics he'll have air time on Western media.

Pretty sure most Olympic athletes use some form of PEDs. Use it during training/off season. Micro-dosing at night, etc….

This prob applies to all major athletic programs from U.S., China, UK, Australia. If your competitors are using it, you are at a disadvantage if you don’t. So your are forced to.

She literally has a PHD in breakdancing. What are your qualifications?
Another subtext narrative of the future while Chinese are not only excelling in Olympic level athletics we are also excelling at real studies STEM etc-a hardworking job at McDonalds is actually more useful then a PhD in nonsense.

If we take into account that most American athletes are affected by ADHD, Asthma, covid, POTS, etc... They would be participants in the Paralympic Games without the therapeutic use exemptions (TUEs) that allows American athletes to take drugs and medications that affect physical performance...

An example of overcoming the "fastest man in the world" who with covid-19 managed to run faster than his opponents, when doctors say that the disease affects the respiratory system, or how his water sports athletes with asthma win even when their skins are purple from physical exertion...

If it turns out that American athletes are in such poor health as to compete without drugs... They would have to go to the Paralympics, but thanks to authorized drugs and doping, they compete with healthy athletes.
If one Chinese athlete had turned purple like that-the ensuing firestorm of doping ,drug abuse would be overwhelming. As I thought vasodilation exteme like some people turning beet red when drinking alcohol(booze flush/blush)As one poster here said about lactic acid buildup-couldn't agree as LA buildup causes soreness, fatigue etc and is flushed out quickly within a few minutes by respiration/circulatory cycle moreso if you are fit/strong-not hours.Consulted a pharmacist friend and he replied."what the hell are they taking?"
