That's not how it works.

Oracle just acquired 20% of Tiktok. Bytedance retains 80% of Tiktok.

Bytedance and Tiktok have different boards. Bytedance is 40% owned by US investors, meaning some of them get a seat on the board of Bytedance. Oracle gets a seat on the board of Tiktok US.

In order for the US to "control" Tiktok, first they have to somehow use their 40% ownership in Bytedance to install a US-leaning majority board in Tiktok. Only then does the 20% Oracle shares in Tiktok come into play.

Of course, if Zhang One-kneel remains a bootlicker to the West, then the above might very well happen, but that would be Bytedance willingly cooperating with the US.

After 9/15 kicked in, AMD immediately got license from US government to supply Huawei for its laptop product line.
As long as Huawei lives like a Lenovo then it's permitted.

Trump desperate for billionaire donation, like in Larry Ellison and Walton family. He cannot afford to offend his contributor base any further with Biden well ahead in war chest.

If Oracle-Walmart gets 20%, Bytedance keeps 80% but decides to let go of 40%, that means 40% of Tiktok global will have to be IPO'ed, and you are going to have a large amount of investors jumping into this which can boost its share price.

It is kind of hard to believe at this point.

Oracle-TikTok-Walmart-ByteDance ...

All these companies working together will leverage their strengths and create something a lot bigger, new powerful marketing, retailing, backend operations, a new corporate partnership virtually overnight, when it might have taken years to accomplish, perhaps never.

All because some goof in the Trump administration wanted to ban TikTok.

So they do a joint venture, an idea ripped off from the CCP, and they demand user data stored only inside the country, another idea ripped off from the CCP who has the exact law.

After all that, TikTok and its parent company, will make even more money off the American dance market, all along together with their current and new American corporate friends, whose influence extend right into the Trump administration, directly to el Presidente himself.

What gives?!

So, no matter what happens, TikTok must pay that $5 billion to set up that BLM education fund.

That way the optics look correct, in that how TikTok yielded, unwillingly.

The part about how they gonna make many times that amount with their advertising revenue and/or IPO, no one will pay attention to that, and the people busting a move will not understand that either. Neither will the anti-China people in Washington DC.

If someone does understand that in Washington DC, then no more campaign donations for you. Mr. Zhang friends will watch out for him. Friends take care of friends.

If SMIC can earn revenues, capitalize their business, and secure a strong foothold in the industry, then it is *not* useless to China’s semiconductor efforts, even if they can’t provide immediate assistance to Huawei. They need to be in a position where their business is strong enough to transition to Chinese suppliers in parallel before they can help other Chinese businesses without penalty. If using American equipment helps them do that, then that’s what they should do, instead of damaging their own business for short term causes that cripple their ability to help China’s semiconductors ecosystem in the long term. Not everything about making Chinese industry independent hinges on providing assistance to Huawei at any costs. That’s exactly the sort of shortsighted thinking that you were earlier denigrating.

China already set a precedent when it said Chinese data must stay within China.

The US is now following the same path, which is not good news for Google, Facebook, Instagram, etc.

These companies don't respect data sovereignty, and now face the prospect of every country in the world demanding that their user data is controlled locally, so that it is beyond the reach of the US spy agencies.
