Lol this is not about business or capitalism. Let’s be clear about that. After this deal Bytedance might still get sanctioned. WeChat, DJI, Alibaba, Tencent’s gaming business in the US are still on the hit list. Ticktock deal bought you zero leverage or favors with the US government except signs of weakness.
I do not see what you are getting at.

TikTok in America, is still a business deal.

Sanctions, that is the realm of politics.

Also, if we consider the trade war started by Trump, and the US government versus Huawei war started by Trump's crew ...

Well, you should know the results of those actions.

China is free to reciprocate on us corporations now and the us can't complain anymore. IMO, Now everyone in the US knows Tik-Tok is a Chinese made app and many think it is cool. They also know there own gov is kinda bullying too in regards to trying to ban it. That soft power is worth more than what ByteDance gave up.

People like to have nice and efficient cell phones, computers, chips for practically everything like fighter jets, rockets, ai cars, etc. Its like saying you can survive eating bean and rice for 80 years, but do you really want to?

That's like saying the horse carriage is more efficient than the automobile.

It might have been true at the beginning, but it's certainly not true today.

The major obstacle to cloud computing since it was first conceptualized some 20 years ago has always been network availability and bandwidth, and 5g is poised to revolutionize that.

Mobile processing devices, such as cell phones and self-driving cars, are especially suited to cloud computing since they need to be linked to a network anyway.

You say you want an efficient cell phone? Guess what, powerful CPUs consume a ton of power. The battery is the heaviest component in your phone. Imagine if you don't need such a powerful cpu anymore. Everything is processed on a mainframe, and you just render the data on your device. You would get amazing energy savings as well as more freedom for form factor design. You would end up with a much more efficient mobile device than what we currently have.

As of today, it is hard to say what this TikTok story was all about now.

Let's just look at what ByteDance gave up.

They basically gave up nothing. They retain full control of TikTok inside America, will continue operations there, will remain the number #1 downloaded app in the world.

All they did was give $5 billion to the BLM education fund.

Then they will incorporate in Texas and do an IPO. TikTok they believe is worth $50 billion USD just the American part, so the IPO with the blessing of the Trump American government, the new company TikTok Global could raise anywhere from $50 to $100 billion.

Guess who gets most of that money, them being the parent company.

Navarro probably going to blow a gasket.

That is why the poor people are screwed. All they do is dance, while other people make all the money.

20% owned by Oracle. 40% owned by various American investors. Ticktok only owns the remaining 40%. Source code must be open for examination. User data, which is the most valuable asset, is owned and controlled by Oracle, not bytedance.

So yea, Bytedance just lost majority control of the company. And will most likely be sanctioned by the US at a later date anyway.

not sure where you get info 40% owned by other company, especially source code is open examination, your link? the point is User data from US has to stay in US and operated by US company, that was the requirement (its same with MS/Apple data center in China). $5B is small change compare to Tiktok revenue, though the unpredictable is Trump, he might just change his mind next week. TikTok already lose india, if it lose US then its gonna lose other like aussie/canada/, maybe even EU, then the only market for them is some poor developing world and China. I see this deal as a compromise given the alternative.

The 40% of Bytedance itself is owned by US investors, through several rounds of previous funding.
so basically 40% WAS already there before Trump go at it, and Trump use it as way to saying US have majority of holding. I guess the deal is a compromise, alternatively they basically have to shut down in US. if that happen, would aussie/canada and other use tiktok at all?? would india use it now, i guess tiktok can say its US company now to entice india. either way i think the total shut down or outright sold to US company is even worst.
