The US bans China and Western technology companies are fighting over a smaller slice of the pie. That's when their tech companies die from not having a means of making money. Taiwan is already seeing the writing on the wall because they want revamp the economy beyond chips. How would you like it where the US tell you not to do business with China but then now there's the possibility a US company will be able to do what the US tells you not to? America first isn't just for Americans. It's an end around that the US is doing now what they charge China will do in the future. Some Middle East countries are now looking beyond oil because the world's drive for green technology. They see the writing on the wall. Which way is the world going? Blindly obeying the US that can vote for a Trump or developing their economies so that the US doesn't have a say? Every US ally wants to make money from China or else they wouldn't be doing business with China at all.

I can see a future where the USA will he abandoned by the world and the 5eyes being disbanded after the election since if the dollar is no longer king, what benefit is there in trading with the USA at that point. Once the USA starts in an attempt to prevent to prevent others from doing business like this, they are signaling to the world they have given up on world leadership

i would tell you that chinese pc gaming market (nvidia and amd graphic cards and cpu) has been 15 billion dollars last year. The whole gaming market in china is 33 billion dollars

American gaming market (console pc and mobile) is 30 billions. Consoles (xbox ps and twitch) are semi banned in china. So china is the most important market in the world for high end cpus mobile and pc. Trump Pompeo and Navarro doesn't have a clue of what they are doing. Cutting off china is likely to cause a 30% or so in revenue for american chipmakers, a disaster.

A question: how many chinese with post secondary education are in china? How many in USA. How many with scientific background?

actually i'm pretty sure they know that. some the advisor in WH is not dumb. Trump WANT to decouple, thats the point. if China ban Apple/MS, that would make Trump more happy, cause then he can roll out more decoupling methods. Qualcomm already told Trump their business will suffer, did Trump care? nope.

But then every Chinese has to buy Huawei phone since neither Huawei nor its Chinese competitors are willing (rightfully) share a common OS just like the dead effort of Symbian. Is Huawei going to be mercy to Chinese citizens after all other Chinese competitors are killed off? Certainly not, Huawei is a company responsible only to its shareholders/employees, it is not the government who still have a legal duty to consider the living cost of citizens.

Huawei is a great company, not doubt. I am proud of China having one company like Huawei. But we should not see Huawei as a national hero (Ren Zhengfei's own word) or worship it as God.

exactly, but he doesn't think that way, he is think US has tech superiority now, and if he doesn't do something now, china will catch up. Also he want decouple. Eventually US tech will pay for his bad decision due to increase china investment R&D in tech, but that will be 4-5 years or more from now. he wont be the president by then, so he dont care. short term goal by sacrificing long term benefit.

Good, if he damages things enough, no one will want to use USA tech cause it is not only used as a threat around the world (cause if they don't like you, they can stop you), but also they are confirmed to spy and steal from the people so that isn't going to be good for American tech in the future. Trump is on borrowed time (as in he is quite old) and he knows the USA is screwed economically so he most likely wants to leave office doing as much damage as possible

Trump cares about his image. You think he wants to be known as destroying the US economy? The problem with Trump is he's a white supremacist and he thinks no one not white can do anything without white people. That's what his policies were following until China didn't collapse day one of his trade like he proclaimed would happen. If the US doesn't need China why hasn't slapped tariffs on the rest of China's exports like he threatens. It's a forgotten threat because the rest of China's exports are US companies outsourcing to China their products to be made. US companies get hit and hurt the most there. Meaning also all the tariffs slapped before were mostly actual Chinese companies. His tariffs did nothing to the Chinese economy. He's poking the perimeter right now. If the US doesn't need China, then why doesn't he decouple right now! Wouldn't that send the clearest message of how the US doesn't need anyone?

Look at the US's coronavirus response... Which country is more likely be able to recover from a macro emergency? Pretty hard to keep up the message that your system is superior when they keep failing challenges.
