Everyone here (hopefully) agrees with you but that does not change the fact that the U.S. is determined to create a coalition of the Five Eyes, the EU, Japan, SK, India & more to impede China and deny it access to technology and capital.

China cannot expect ANY mercy from the world. That is just how it is.

That is why I keep saying China needs to massively increase investment in basic and applied research, cultivate an open culture where independent thinking is welcomed, welcome diversity of highly skilled workers from other countries, and work with other countries (such as Pakistan) where it can to cultivate network effects of scientific collaboration.

I have said repeatedly that China must possess the capability of producing any item of technology that is worth producing as long as it exists - which it likely will for several millennia more (even after humanity has become an interstellar species with continent sized rotating space habitats) . I will add, for emphasis, WITHOUT EXCEPTION.

No one seems to have reported that Trump has now banned CSG or China Shipping Group, which is the merger of CSSC and CSIC, but who cares I can't imagine what kind of US technology large Chinese commercial ships would still have. This is mainly a symbolic and toothless sanction.

Looks like China will have to get used to doing less business with the U.S. in the future.

China is being eerily quiet while the bans on her companies keep piling on from the U.S. side.

"If enforced starting in September, the new rules will eventually impede the Shenzhen-based company’s ability to fulfill its obligations with China’s telecom majors in building the country’s next-generation network infrastructure — Huawei already accounts for as much as 60% of mobile network infrastructure. HiSilicon’s Tiangang series of semiconductors — manufactured by TSMC using advanced 7 nm node process technology — are critical to the functioning of Huawei’s 5G base station offerings. The firm appears to have stockpiled some semiconductors, but if production at TSMC is fully cut off, it will not be able to continue producing key pieces of equipment undergirding new infrastructure very far into 2021. New infrastructure is likely to require new approaches at the equipment level, particularly if Huawei rival ZTE cannot ramp up fast enough to take up some of the slack."

a. It specifically said 7nm chip in Huawei 5G base station.
b. Stockpiles will empty out in 2021

However, we all know Huawei has "solutions" which could be any combination of these:
- a semi line in Beijing mentioned by WTAN(?)
- 28nm resolution litho machine from SMEE will do the job even for 7nm node
- another line, perhaps w samsung
- could even be using FPGAs?

The thing is, Huawei/China seem rather calm which could mean they are confident enough of several solutions.

The thing is that persons in the West of the attitude of the author are also trying to prevent China from domestically making technological breakthroughs, and even advancements to improve and at least catch up where behind, with their insistence that China cease implementing state guided industrial policy and domestic tech applied R & D.

Beh as if most of US' tech breakthough aint mostly funded by DARPA/NASA/Congress.

If China manage to manage this semiconductor ban, all the more it is crucial to further punish China for having the nerve to be untransparent about her state-led semiconductor development effort which is not aligning to free market rule and create an unfair field for western competitors.

I do not get the idea behind it seriously. When I see it from a global perspective, a 1.4b strong scientific power will only add more value to the technological progress for mankind. Why should she be "impeded"? Why should a part of this world go on and contain/stop the progress or development of another part of the world at cost of everyone?

So all the talk about each nation having their own rights to develop independently is mere talk? How is this world free when one will be contained after they progress pass a certain stage?
White privileged mentality.

Cold War mentality.

Yellow Peril mentality.

Keep the black people down, and that is why they riot mentality.

It has also witnessed many other countries take more legal measures against Huawei. For instance, the United Kingdom

More related to economic thread, but it's likely they will use Chinese tech to build the roads and ports,

Kra Canal is out, to be replaced by roads

From SCMP.com

"Thailand looks to cut Malacca Strait shipping time by land link between Indian, Pacific Oceans
  • The highway and rail passageway connecting the two oceans would bypass the congested Strait of Malacca off Malaysia and Singapore
  • Thailand says the 100km ‘land bridge’ between two seaports would replace previous plans for a canal, and would cut shipping time by over two days

This O-Ran is impractical to the point of being silly.

China is building and has built stand alone 5G networks today.

The bureaucrats touting O-Ran should give an indication when a manufacturer will produce such a product for that 5G network.

At this point, we hear radio silence!

:D
