China's development on IC Fab Equipment is becoming more/more like the Aircraft engine story - endless research development snipits from weibo/wechat with a supposed targeted launch date next year but nothing ever emerges in terms of mass production. Is there even a simple table that tracks commercially successful product development at every step of the IC fabrication process? The country is facing a very bleak future where a simple entity list extension could zero all of its tech champions.

Foreign media would like to pick on the Three Gorges Dam, because that is probably the most well known project that they know about. But the thing is that since the Three gorges project, there have been a couple more hydroelectric projects that have a combined power generation capacity twice that of the Three Gorges project.

The truth comes out. The US wants to steal TikTok to get at Chinese innovations. I do recall Bill Gates around the time of the birth of text speech recognition say the Chinese were ahead of the US hence why he was hiring Chinese in China to develop it for Microsoft.
Hi AssassinsMace,

See who hold the stronger hand, China will act rationally, The Huawei saga may have me lost a little bit of confidence in CCP, like others, I also lament about the inaction, but with the help of WTAN, Skywatcher, localizer, KYli and others in explaining the course of action Beijing is doing to address the situation. It gave me hope and confidence. They had calmly assess the situation, plan the course of action and implement it, without the drama of using sanction as a mean of retaliation.

US is like a kid (in the movies) who has all kinds of skills, and even surpasses his elders.. but the kid lacks wisdom. If you look at US history, it's only about 250 yrs old, plus 1-2 centuries with baby steps since 1492. That's why prez Carter said that out of 250 yrs since independence only about 20 yrs that US had no wars at all.

When Trump put new rules in May this year to further block Huawei, China made a statement that it would take actions. I guess the reason China held steady and calm is because China knew it might take 1 year to sort things out for the real solutions (SMEE, working w Samsung, China's EDA etc) but China holds all the ace cards because hundreds of big/medium US companies make sales in domestic China for $400 billions/year.

The only one major hit that China did was to sanction Lovkheed Martin.

So we shall see whether the kid is smarter or the elder guy who has much wisdom as well as abilities to fight against the arrogant kid.

If Bytedance doesn't sell Tiktok, would Trump actually ban Tiktok?

Tiktok USA figures
Monthly Active Users: 100 million
Daily Active Users: 50 million

Annoying 50-100 million people in the USA is going to cost Trump votes in the upcoming Presidential election.
Or it will spur lots more people to vote against him.
And Trump needs all the votes he can get, because he is down in the polls.

Given this situation, I think China/Bytedance should actually refuse to sell Tiktok USA by the September 15th deadline.
Then it is highly likely that Trump will have to delay or cancel the forced sale of Tiktok USA.

And I suspect whoever came up with the bright idea of going after Tiktok and WeChat will be fired in the aftermath.

(Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump's restrictions on China's Huawei Technologies Co Ltd have sparked widespread stockpiling of unsold product across the chip industry, and Washington's proposed aid to bolster the sector falls far short of what is needed to fill the gap, an analyst told Reuters.

"Under the surface, there's been lots of inventory build-up," Dan Hutcheson, chief executive officer of VLSI Research, told the Reuters Global Markets Forum on Monday.

"We're seeing integrated circuit inventory levels that are more typical in front of a downturn."

Remember some Chinese official warned that China might withdraw from U.K.'s nuclear program if 5G was banned? Maybe that was not an empty threat.

China CANNOT withdraw from the UK nuclear program. Remember nuclear reactors take insane amounts of planning and time and dont exactly grow on trees. One more nuclear reactor built by china means one less that is built by US/Japan... China needs to learn how to build these reactors in every different configuration and regulatory environment. Also keep in mind they usually have service contracts stretching out many years which is an attractive stream of work/plus can build meaningful long term relations between chinese workers and locals. Plus workers at a chinese-built plant are still likely to be less rabidly anti-chinese than the average population,
