Which rock have live under all this time. Let see there are at least 180X J11B using WS 10 that mean 360 WS 10 engine Then there are 170 X J16 =340 WS10 engine Total 700 engine flying since roughly 2000
20 years of accumulating experience with 1 single known accident

I say that is complete success It take 20 years for engine to mature I don't think WS 15 reach that time limit yet development is sometime mid 1990's

Ws15 is already in product just last month so eventually good things are coming. At least in regards to development, they are slowly getting there unlike the f-35 which seems to have one disaster after another these days

I guess I triggered a bit of reaction with the jet engine statement. There's certainly people who better follow that space than I do so I'll let them ride with that. But I do feel that it would helpful and more factual to setup a thread that tracks commercialization of Chinese IC fab equipment at every major step of the semiconductor fabrication process. Simple news/development posting with minimal discussion except an explanation on why a post/update is relevant.

Hmmm that is something I can agree with but a lot of development on the fab equipment is being done behind closed doors so sometimes it is hard to get j formation on the topic

The Three Gorges Dam generates as much electricity as Norway does every year, plus the lives it will save and costs it will reduce from the annual flooding in the Yangtze basin. So yeah, it will recoup its expenses in a few years, then it will generate net benefits year after year.

The high-speed rail story sounds like a joke? Just because you do NOT have it does not mean you don't need it!

Update on the TikTok situation - it looks good:
ByteDance Is Said to Need China Nod for TikTok Sale
August 30th, 2020, 7:01 PM EDT
ByteDance Ltd. will be required to seek Chinese government approval to sell the U.S. operations of its short-video TikTok app under new restrictions Beijing imposed on the export of artificial intelligence technologies, according to a person familiar with the matter. China poised to overtake US in nuclear power by 2030
Beijing and Moscow seize initiative in global reactor construction as G-7 steps back

TOKYO -- China is on track to surpass the U.S. as the world's top producer of nuclear energy as early as 2030, reflecting hesitance to build new capacity in Japan and Western nations even as emerging economies move ahead.

China's total nuclear power generation capacity, including reactors under construction and in planning, came to 108,700 megawatts as of April, more than America's 105,120 MW, according to the World Nuclear Association, an industry group.
...

China brought its first nuclear power station online only about three decades ago, yet "in terms of its technology level, it's caught up with the most advanced in the world," said Hideo Nakasugi, senior specialist at the Japan Atomic Industrial Forum.

The U.S. still leads in terms of capacity in operation, with about 98,000 MW. France follows at 62,000 MW, with China placing third at 45,000 MW. But while the U.S. is decommissioning reactors with few new ones in the pipeline to replace them, China has 11 new reactors under construction and more than 40 in the planning stages.

Remember some Chinese official warned that China might withdraw from U.K.'s nuclear program if 5G was banned? Maybe that was not an empty threat.

Some/many anti-China ppl were hoping 3GD would collapse, and various articles mentioned corruption during the construction of the dam which would result in a lower quality structure. But even if there was some corruption, the builders would have taken some precaution: at the time the designers said there was a 10:1 safety factor built into the system. So even if recent flooding had actually topped the dam (still about 8+ meters) it still would have held it steady and strong.

There have been people that have gone to verify the situation with the wall and also because this wall is designed as a gravity dam, it is quite unlikely to topple over. Yes the water could go over but given the amount of care taken in regards to the flooding and the control factors in place, I think I would rather put my trust into the Chinese government that will deploy the army itself to take care of the flooding then the USA what deploys friggen criminals to handle the fires in California (which they can't due to Covid and hence the fires are still ongoing and doing damage)

China's development on IC Fab Equipment is becoming more/more like the Aircraft engine story - endless research development snipits from weibo/wechat with a supposed targeted launch date next year but nothing ever emerges in terms of mass production. Is there even a simple table that tracks commercially successful product development at every step of the IC fabrication process? The country is facing a very bleak future where a simple entity list extension could zero all of its tech champions.

I don't know where you get this impression.

There have only been leaks that China/SMEE has been working on 28 nm litho equipment within the last year or so, unlike the aircraft engine saga, which has been going on for decades now and has been a constant subject among Chinese military observers here and elsewhere. The reason that you're seeing/hearing a lot of news/rumors on litho equipment or IC fab equipment is largely due to the US sanctions lately.

China has a national plan for IC fab equipment development, falling under the Project 02 category. The plan was made years ago and calls for litho equipment capable of 28 nm resolution by 2020. It has also been officially acknowledged that any EUV litho equipment won't be ready before 2030.

Given the new geopolitical environment, the above schedule for EUV might be accelerated.

By the way, China actually has been making steady progress in aircraft engine, reflected in the visible improvements and progress in WS-10 family, and in WS-15, WS-19, CJ1000, etc. It just takes time in developing a world-class aircraft engine industry.

Silicon Valley chip pioneer MIPS is now (almost) a Chinese company

Throughout its history, MIPS has changed hands and IPOed more than once. But, in a surprising turn of events, it has ended up under control of a Chinese company.

As a result, Chinese companies may now license crucial processor architecture IP from the company and develop their SoCs for various purposes without any restrictions imposed by the U.S...
