Is TSMC involved in research related to quantum semiconductors? Both the US and China are dong related research.

. Each of those milestones was more than a decade apart. People think quantum computers are just around the corner, but history shows these advances take time. If 10 years from now we have a quantum computer that has a few thousand qubits, that would certainly change the world in the same way the first microprocessor did. -Scientific American

Today's scientists have a much better understanding of our capabilities. We haven't achieved high temperature superconductors (helps with decoherence) for mass consumption. It will be hard to have quantum computers until that problem is solved.

Regarding the new Fab, we have to see if Trump gets reelected. I'm sure TSMC also doesn't want to build a Fab in the US for fear of espionage by Intel. If Trump loses, there is good chance TSMC will once again be able to service Huawei. Lobbyists are working constantly. The trade war is lost.

hi localizer

Im not a techie person , so what is you opinion on Huawei Kunpeng 920 ARM, Apple is also migrating to ARM on their future CPU for their desk and laptop. Is this mean that its better than Intel or AMD CPU?

TSMC Arizona deal is a big loser for TSMC. I expect it will go the way of the Foxconn Wisconsin deal --- nowhere.

The problem of the building a plant in the US is that you have to ship the chips to the appliance creators, which is in China anyway. So you just end up having the cost of the ocean transport to ship the chips to China for appliance assembly, then ship the appliance back to the US. The costs are always passed on to the US consumer.

Pentagon wants TSMC so they can make the chips there for the US military but the problem is the scale of the production, is that enough to offset the cost of the fab, or the fab costs are going to be passed to the chips.

Using ARM does not make a faster laptop. Only a thinner, more battery saving laptop. You can buy an ARM based notebook even in the US for some years now, as some of those Chromebooks you see in Best Buy or Walmart, are ARM powered, either by a Samsung or Mediatek chip.

China-made OS and CPUs completes adaption-cnTechPost

Union Tech, the developer of the Unity Operating System (UOS), announced today that it has recently signed an agreement with Loongson Technology to become a member of the Loongson Ecosystem Adaptation Services Industry Alliance.

Union Tech said its general-purpose hardware and software adaptation test centers in Beijing, Wuhan, and Guangzhou are capable of providing eco-adaptation services based on the "UOS+Loongson" ecosystem.

UOS has now been adapted to the Loongson 3A/B3000 and 3A/B4000 series processors.
According to Union Tech, as of July 9, the number of PCs, peripherals, middleware, database, application software, business systems based on the UOS and Loongson processors are more than 2000.

Huawei is really a scary company, there hold in 5G tech and its application is huge, now I realize the fear of US govt and its HI-tech industries.

BYD Han to be unveiled on July 12, first mass-produced car to feature Huawei 5G tech-cnTechPost

Huawei Consumer Business CEO Richard Yu said on Weibo today that the world's first mass-produced model with Huawei's 5G technology - the BYD Han, will be officially unveiled via an online launch on July 12.

Technology including HUAWEI HiCar, 5G, and mobile NFC car keys will be unveiled alongside the new car's launch.

According to BYD, Huawei's 5G technology will be applied to the in-car smart entertainment system and DiPilot smart driving system. With Huawei's 5G technology, BYD Han's many smart features and services will be worth waiting for, the company said.
The BYD Han became available for pre-order in April this year at a pre-subsidized price of 230,000-280,000 yuan.

I dont know anything about BYD cars as far as quality is concerned, however it would be neat.if was to offer their technology.to any car manufacturer in China.

@ansy1968 @B.I.B.

Hehe my family owns a BYD, it's pretty modern. Though people say BYD not known for reliability.

But problem with Linux is app environment. China needs an domestic x86 production chain because all the important software are x86.

Unless Apple teaches the world how to get around that with their new ARM macbooks next year.

I hope the new car is better, otherwise it might become the object of silly jokes.

There use to be one about FORD
Q Why did FORD introduce rear window heaters?
ANS. To keep your hands warm when pushing them along the road after they broke down in winter..

In the west, some systems are experimenting with ARM like with the cheaper/low power Chrome OS notebooks and even windows have invested into Windows ARM.

China has a domestic x86 but its lagging intel/amd desktop about 5 years and notebook prob a whole lot longer

I think China's domestic line is just beginning, with the govt encouraging domestic consumption and investments, hopefully they will become globally competitive in the next decade.
