I fully expect China to overtake US in everything except COVID deaths. In the long long run, with the advantages China holds in size, culture, and governance, she has absolutely zero business being the lesser tech power of the two.

Also mass shootings/gun violence and hate crimes... US will continue to reign supreme in these areas; China is a clear loser in these areas.

Don't underestimate a lot of these professions. In general, I think it's a great thing that the Chinese society values building real stuff over having the best and brightest working for parasite professions like lawyers and private equities. They've certainly made a lot of progress in every aspect of manufacturing. But ask yourself a question, why is China's soft power so much weaker than America's? There are real value in a lot of these professions that bring other aspects like entertainment to people's lives. People that produce software that everyone use brings a lot to a country's influence around the world. Similarly, a country's artists bring soft power. How is it that South Korea has BTS and produced "Parasite" and "Squid Games" while China has produced no similar culture hit.

While having too many investment bankers is not good, having a vibrant and transparent banking industry allows America to retain its dominance over the world through US dollars. Can you imagine America without having the world's reserve currency?

So while having technological prowess gives a country power. So do banking/finance, software industry and pop culture in different ways.

You think the West would simply let China's soft power to become famous? There's plenty of Chinese talent to do soft power for the world audience. It just would never get exposed by Western distributers. South Koreans like Japanese are no threat to Western or US power and status quo, therefore they are chosen as a representative to be the model Asian success that's happy to be second bananas to them.

I don't think we're in disagreement here. These occupations are important. We obviously need bankers and lawyers in a functioning society. The issue comes when the best and brightest are enticed by ROI or prestige to pursue a career in law or finance instead of heading into STEM. This is something China can and should fix. Engineers and scientists are the ones who push forward the rate of technological advancement. Not lawyers and bankers.

Get real. They bash Chinese soft power every chance they get. The critic Twittersphere bashed the shit out of Wandering Earth and Genshin Impact. The reality is, lots of soft power is what the critic Twittersphere likes, not what people actually do. And we all know who the Twittersphere takes talking points from.

At least Genshin Impact had millions of American players, what was the viewership of Squid Game or Parasite in the US?

Because China didn't go on a genocidal rampage around the world imposing its language and culture on the people it didn't outright murder like America and England did. Or did you think America has "soft power" because people really like McDonald's?

Even if I buy the lie that America got to where it is by competitive merit, why should I want to establish Chinese power in the same way? Why should I "compete" with someone when I can stick a gun in his face? That's the only way you get power in this world - by having the strength to impose your will on others. That strength is what China is building and it's the only thing worth building.

Actually most players of Genshin pretend/think it's a Japanese game, with lots wanting the devs to move out of China.

Matter of fact, the news of the devs setting up a Singapore subsidiary for financial purposes to avoid Western sanctions, is inaccurately thought out by them that the devs are no longer 'Chinese' but now a 'multi-national' company with Japanese leanings. Weaboos lmao.

Does it matter when the company is still getting taxed in mainland China and all the money the weebs blew on it are financing J-20s and Type-055s?
