New Type98/99 MBT thread

Army can be second in line during battle. Depending where the attacker will be coming from.

Remember China has a huge land border...

Though they are still pretty good towards most of China's neighbor, I knew that since almost all of them that are sharing land borders with China belongs to the third world. It would still be different if PLA will have a very superior army compared to them.

That is what I am pointing at though I know the priority of Airforce and Navy. But will $400 million USD a heavy burden to China's defense spending? That wasn't even 1% of the total defense spending...

It would not surprise me if China built in excess of 200 Type-96s each year, and they easily outclass anything in central, southeast, and south Asia. The only serious competition the Type-96 faces are the more modern armored divisions in the Russian army and maybe a few Indian divisions. It will be the Type-98's job to deal with those elite divisions.

In major engagements you can always use the older tanks to screen for the more modern ones, drawing enemy fire while the newer tanks with their more accurate and longer-ranged weapons stay back and lay on the hurt.

I doubt that tanks will be a priority for the Chinese, China has better precision and stand off attack capabilities than all those who share a land border with it, ICM and laser guided munitions for PLZ-05, target sensitive submunitions on PHL-03 and SY-400, and guided bombs from JH-7A will easily break up any enemy armoured divisions.

That is if the attacking army doesn't have any good air support. Though there are also little threats around China regarding its neighbors airforces (with the exception of the Russian airforce).

I do believe somewhat like 2,000-4,000 total number of modern tanks will still be a good back bone. (Just to make your army totally superior against your neighbors).

The Indian air force can be considered a threat.

Yes but that wouldn't be very alarming either, they are also in trouble with Pakistan.

PLAAF has more modern planes than the IAF had except the SU-30's recently acquired by IAF's.

That is why I am suggesting in faster pace in modernization in PLA tanks, this is to ensure an absolute victory. Given a dominance in air and land.

Yeah same.

I personally would like to see a light/medium class tank which is advanced but easy to produce. Like using Type 99 mod technologies, but is able to be introduced easily and quickly. Just to replace the old T-50's and 60's.

Though the Indian proliferation of the T-90 is kinda worrying. As well as their development of the Arjun, can be considered a small threat.

Was Arjun Tanks that alarming? It was designed in 1970's... Wouldn't its technology aging already? I think it would soon be obsolete.

Isn't the purpose of the Type-96 to replace older tanks with a modern, capable, yet cheap and easy to produce platform? The Type-96 is also quite a bit lighter than the Type-98/99.

Due to Russian disinterest in fielding a new generation of tank, not an upgrade of t 72, due to lack of funds and more urgent spending priorities. I say China has the best tank on mainland Asia in type 99. Only one that could be better is the S Korean tank?

The Arjun is just hyped up, sure it could be a good tank, if fielded, but is no revolutionary tank, its based on proven design (leo 2).

Contrary to fanboy's China does not have an unlimited budget, people need to relise that it has other defence priorities such as the Navy and airforce. Since world war 2, airpower has been the decisive factor.
