New Type98/99 MBT thread

I can understand why tanks are not good with urban warfare, but why are many cuntries upgrading the MBTs with preparation for urban warfare. I'm sure you can name a few tanks that they are preping for urban warfare.

Yes I know, but that was the biggest mistake they would ever do. I'd rather use infantry on urban warfare, backed by APC's or IFV's. The infantry will be armed with Rocket Launchers just to back the troops in case of enemy armored units.

Indeed. Out of the three (navy, air force, army) groups I'd say the air force is the most important. Then the navy.

The Type 96 I think needs to be modified more (to be modified after G variant), to incorporate an APS or the laser countremeasures equipment on the Type 99. I suppose more upgrades to the Type 96 will suffice.

I disagree. The best tank is the type 90 of japan.

Umm did I say there was a tank that was the best?

I was just saying that China needed an effective new tank, then realised the Type 96G..

Besides IMO the best tank is probably the Challenger 2.

But that's off topic and I'm pretty sure there's a rule talking about not comparing tanks....

I think the type 90 of Japan is a bit big for its weight, which means the armor maybe spread out. And vertical plates?

My opinion, the best tank today is the Leopard 2A6.

Well, not that I want to start comparing tanks, but the T90 of japan is a almost 2 decades old tank that didnt recieve much of a upgrades, its light but relatively large, meanng proberbly comfort to drive and sit in, but its protection is however arguably one of the worst MBT out there.

I agree with yehe. And jaijar was talking about "mainland asia". I don't think Japan can be counted as "mainland" if the Type 90 was any good anyway...

Anyway that's my final word on this off topic comparison. No more about it will be heard from me.

This is how I view the Type 96G. The Type 99 came out but required further refining, and the basic Type 96 design was alright but it had obsolete equipment and turret design. So when the Type 99 had new variants rolling out soon, the technology was implemented on the Type 96 to improve its capabilities. And also its easier to mass equip the army with Type 96 or convert by modifications existing old Type 96 to G variant. Keeping the old design to save cost, rather then creating a new project to equip the East and South division armies with a new Main Battle Tank. Also bringing the Type 96 to around Type 99 standard but without the excess of 50t weight issue for the East and South environments.
So far all articles gather gives a number for the Type 99 of all variants including the elite showcase models to be around ~500, and for the Type 96 around ~2700-3000. So if your looking only on China Tanks its nearly reaching 50% modern-advance Main Battle Tanks in numbers for its Ground Forces.

I just wonder where did you get these figures? Type 96 were just estimated to be around 1500, while Type 99 around 200.
