Re: Type 96 MBT vs competition-Big Market Opportunities

Hi All
There are big market opportunities for the T-96 in SEA.
The ff. inquiries have been received:
1. Competition - SouthKorea - KS1/II, India-Arjun/new modified Vijayanta with 120mm, Russia- T90S, Ukraine-T-80. How does the above compare
vs. these competitors?
2. Timely delivery - for batch of 50-100?
3. What type of 1000HP engine? Is this also an MTU clone like the 1500HP
of T99 or is it more like the Deutz/Weichang equivalent ?
4. Armor plate- does this tank use chobham type armor?
5. Is the 125mm gun identical to T99? can this gun fire the AT-11 anti tank
missile?
6. Can laser dazzler option be provided?

Clive, we have a Type 96 MBT thread. No need to open a new one.
4. nope
5. In early versions, unlikely to be identical. Later versions, don't know. The gun can probably fire it, whether it has the electronics to support the missile will probably depend on the buyer.
6. I would doubt it.

I am surprised that US Army even trains soldiers in this. In the modern warfare a Bradley or like will never get real chance to engage a tank, very rare. A modern tank fire control system reacts just too quick and accurate and can knock out a Bradley kms away. In a real war you either run away fast when spotting a tank or just ambush in an urban environment.

BTW all T-72 like tanks do poorly in an urban warfare, like in Chechnya. They're designed to do field combat, but lack of all direction armor protection makes it vulnerable in urban war. American or German tanks are far more better in this.

Correct that you would never use a Bradley to engage tanks as a primary target, but it does have that capability with its tow launcher out to extended ranges that even a tank is hard pressed to perform. Also taking a flank or rear shot burst from a 25mm cannon loaded with DU projectiles can inflict damage to alot of tanks that are out there.

All main battle tanks would due quite poorly in a urbanized setting due to the fact they are designed for eating up terrian and over running its opponent not playing cat and mouse with ground pounders in a town or village.

I saw this first hand. just for fun a Bradley fired 25mm sabot at the front turret aspect of a T-72 and it penetrated. I think the range was 300meters. Also saw Barrett .50 SLAP penetrate Type-59 front turret at 300-500 yards. please note the war was over and we just having fun with abandoned stuff....cheers ute.

I am hearing stuff down the pike that the armour on the Type-96/99 and those blocks are not ERA but very advanced composite made of some super hard mineral called coridium or something like that. These guys I talk too are umm.....will just say open sorce with a peep hole.

HMM - I will check around on this material and see if it is feasible, my sources state that they relied on the Ukrainians for assistance with armor protection levels, the T-84 does offer better protection levels over Russian T - 90 series.

It will eat T-72's for lunch. It has a superior round via an improved autloader allowing for a longer penetrator as well as a superior gun being highly machined L/50 vs the T-72's poorly machined L/48, better armor and electronics. I am not aware of any T-72 othe rthan the 120mm conversion being able to fire a true long rod penetrator.

The T-90S might be a different story. The ZTZ-99 still has quite a few advantages like a hunter killer ability. But if the T-90S has the improved autoloader then its newer 2A46M-5 with the BM-42M is a real threat.

The only real T-series that are superior in any meaningfull way would be the T-72-120 w/ bustle rack storage out the Ukraine and the new T-80UM2 Black eagle with bustle rack storage.

.

how does the type-99 compare with the french leclerc tanks ??

also what is the actual power:weight ratio of the type-99 ??

is it fully amphibious ???

.

The weight is between 51 and 55 tons. The power is 1200hp, and it's said there's a 1500hp engine. It's not amphibious.

What is that thing sticking out from top of the tank with a large double numeral LED display (88) ?
Wind Detectors ?

The (88) is just a common numerator to show the wind knot for range adjustments. But why is it on display.. beats me... probably for range evaluation.
