The weight is between 51 and 55 tons. The power is 1200hp, and it's said there's a 1500hp engine. It's not amphibious.

For the 98 that is. Most estimates I have seen for the 99 is between 55 to 58 tons. The engine is now 1500hp.

It seems the estimate for the Type 96G (the Type 96 with the 99/Leo style turret and ERA) is around 48 tons now (dunno about the other Type 96 with the Merkava style turret). There should be a significant gap between the 96 and the 99 to justify the latter.

I had a distinct impression from looking at many pictures, how the turrets of the ZTZ-99 and 96G are made.

Inside, there is probably a cast frying pan turret, not much different from the Chinese T-80 turret.

Then boxes are welded outside of the cast turret. The slabs on the side are probably laminar multi layered, and the space is probably filled with some kind of hardened ceramic or silicate. This gives the turret an angled wedgy look.

Then ERA blocks are added on the outside, finally shaping the turret to a sharp point in the front and slabs on the side.

any picture Type-04?
the new self propel gun show in the display look very much like south africa's Denel T-6 artillery turrent,in fact denel may provide technical assistant.
according to janes year book T-6 turrent are design to be modular, able to fit in existing tank chassic like T-72 or chieftain chassic.
the projectile and charge are store vertically ,firing are fully automatic.
able to fire 3 rd. in 15sec. 5 round (intense) 2 round(manual).
5 round (intense) is kindly low, consider PZ-2000 is getting 9~10 rd. in one minute.

No picture yet. On the exhibition, there's a sign on the 05 clearly says PLZ05, 52 cal, for export only.

According to the "unofficial" version of Chinese 155mm artillery piece R&D history, Chinese 152mm was developed in 1983, but never equiped, since its spec was already obsolete.

Chinese 155mm artillery was developed based on Dr. Gerald Bull's GC-45 which China bought its technology in 1980s. Even Austria's GHN-45, another spinoff of GC-45 was tested in China at that time as well.

The Chinese model goes from W1988/W1988 sp, to WA021 and PLL01...the barrel started with the length of L/45.

All respects to the Type 99 MBT but there is one thing i dont like about the T-99 is the gap between the turret and the base of the tank were a round can be lodged in there in battle which reduces combact survivability.

Heard someone said about an article that he read that the Type 99 MBT ammunition rounds being set off wasnt a major concern for the PLA, cause this would be fixed easily when combat arises, they can easily seperate the ammunition from the crew with modications and add ons.

Also dunno where I heard this but the Type 96 were getting engine upgrades from the original 1000hp diesel engine to the i think was it 1200hp diesel engine. And was also beefing up the turret.

Likely you are referring to the new 96G, which has the ZTZ-99 style turret. It looks good on the tank really, somehow it looks even nicer on the 96G than on the 99. Adding all the ERA would increase weight, and thus the additional HP is needed. It is likely that the tank is now up to 48 tons, nearly that of the original ZTZ-98.

Some 96G is spotted with a Shtora like system.

A third version of the 96G has been revealed, and the turret looks Merkava inspired this time.
