His name is Kozan S. Erkan. He is a naval architect himself. He is not an anti-China person BTW. In fact, most of his content on China is very positive. I asked him his resources.

Well, any unbiased view or option from knowledgeable person should be welcomed, if he give you an answer I think it would be worth to share it here, that being said, if you want a grasp of Chinese tank in actual combat environment you can go watch the recent Russian Tank
Biathlon and notice how even with extra "Punishment" during the contest, PLA still almost won the first place

We now observe a total of 6 (5.5) combind arms brigades equipped with ZTZ-99A. That means the number of ZTZ-99A in service exceeds the number of ZTZ-99.
IISS Military balance has the 2020 inventory at 600 ZTZ99 and 600 ZTZ99A. Would that mean 600 tanks per 5 brigades?
A combined arms battalion seems to have 28 tanks. Not sure if there are 3 or 4 such battalions per brigade. For 84 to 112 tanks per brigade. (give or take a few more in the HQ units)
And I guess there are bound to be some more tanks outside the frontline brigades, in training academies. Might be enough to make the 600 tank count fit if there are 4 battalions per brigade.
But if there are just 3 battalions per brigade, then the 600 tank figure can work only if there are more brigades equipped. Or where am I wrong here?

Today I heard from a Turkish analyst that the Chinese tank engines were extremely unreliable. He claimed their average lifespan was less than 1000 hours. The said analyst is a knowledgeable and respected person so I don't think he is lying. But I think he is misinformed as I couldn't find evidence supporting this. Do any of you have knowledge?

It was true in the early/mid 2000s but since then the problems have been alleviated. Compare service record between MBT-2000 and VT-4.

AIUI 4x CA Batt's per Heavy CAB. each Batt with 2 x MBT and 2 x IFV companies. Each MBT coy has 3 platoons of 4 + 1 each for coy cmdr and deputy. Can't recall if Batt cmdr and deputy also have own MBTs, so total of 28 or 30 per Batt, 112 or 120 per Heavy CAB.
