Shark 6 with larger 2.0L engine and 3.5 tonne tow capacity. It's worth bearing in mind that those "February" Shark 6 numbers also include 450 sales made in January but not counted in that month. The real February count is 1576 Sharks making up 56% of BYD sales for the month. Shark 6 is an impressive vehicle that has made a strong start here, but I think it will be some months before we can get a picture of what ongoing demand looks like.

If you take out Shark, BYD sales in Australia actually declined in both January (down 48% YoY) and February (down 19% YoY). Obviously we don't know what the supply situation is like (EVDirect has suggested there were port issues in January), and also the overall market is down 5.4% after a record 2024. But while it is far too soon to panic, there also isn't much evidence of the 100% year-over-year target growth trajectory touted by local talking heads.
nobody knows the order situation, but they will most likely continue to launch new models like Sea Lion 07 EV soon and that will also add orders. But in terms of shark, this is just a situation where they have to launch a competitive pickup in many of the global markets to capture those demand. Looking at the top sales models, many are pickups.

I have observed this phenomenon of Chinese automobile manufacturer on Chinese social media, that they cannot tolerate any negative comments/feedback/review of their products.

This happens more and more frequent now. People post some complain about the car they bought on social media, the manufacturer got mad, they either demand the platform to take down the posts,or sue the person, sometimes even ask the police to arrest the person.

This phenomenon seems unique to China.
Ask the police to arrest someone? Was there slander? Did they believe it was foul play from a competitor? Otherwise it would just be stupid, wouldn't it?

10 years ago, my mom bought a new car in Texas. Got home, the AC's not cold. Took it back to the dealer and dealer said it's normal. Went to another dealer and that dealer says it's totally not normal. She went back and said if it's normal, show me another car on your floor with an AC like that. Dealer says it's case-by-case. My mom asks for a refund and they say no, because it's used now. Mom went home, wrote them a scathing review. They responded publically in minutes, "We are dedicated to customer support. As we offered you in store, if you are not happy, you may return it at any time. But you did not want to. That offer still stands if you change your mind." My mom drove right back and returned it successfully.

Phenomenon seems unique to the US.

They apparently appointed some old Fiat guy who is now trying to muscle in a bunch of outdated Italian suppliers into the BYD supply chain in Europe. Some of his more colorful quotes:

I am extremely pleased to have created this link between BYD and our industrial supply chain, made up of companies that represent the excellence of Italian know-how,” BYD Special Advisor for Europe Alfredo Altavilla comments. “These companies are distinguished by know-how that has no equal on the international scene and that the whole world recognises. Italy is the first country involved in this activity, and I believe it is right to offer our companies the opportunity to once again become active players in the future of mobility, especially in this delicate phase of technological transition, in which they can play a fundamental role.”

Italy has one of the lowest EV penetration rates and generally speaking everyone knows it is Germany which has the best automotive sector in Europe.

It's also puzzling to me how Italy supposedly has "know-how that has no equal on the international scene". Surely this is news to the Chinese? Pretty embarrassing that a fraudster like this guy is the "special advisor for Europe" for BYD. Shows how many Chinese companies are still pretty amateurish on overseas expansion.

Might explain why BYD's success rate in Europe has been so lackluster thus far. Hopefully they get their act together and hire someone who isn't interested in creating a jobs program for outdated and outmatched suppliers in his home country.

Half, if not more, of the game in Europe is about politics.

You gotta take in some local suppliers here and there and soothe locals' dreams about their high quality EU productsTM.

BYD is cautious on its expansion in Europe. If it competes too hard it could get banned or EU commission would suddenly find some random Chinese gov "subsidies" and put even more tariffs on it

BYD needs someone slick in Europe. Someone who would honey talk them and praise their engineering, artistic designs and whatever else bs he can think of

Making money is old Chinese tradition, no need to worry

New energy vehicles come off the assembly line at the final assembly workshop of Chang'an Auto Digital Intelligence Factory, in Yubei District of southwest China's Chongqing. Chang'an Auto Digital Intelligence Factory was officially launched in 2024, with a designed annual capacity of about 280,000 units of new energy vehicles.

With the goal of digitalizing the whole manufacturing process, Chang'an Auto Digital Intelligence Factory has applied more than 40 advanced technologies such as 5G, artificial intelligence, and digital twins. The factory has gained the production capacity of quickly switching different vehicle models and realized collinear production of multi-brands and multi-power types of vehicles, which not only improves its production efficiency, but also enhances its ability to respond to changes in market demand.
