The same could not be said about anyone’s pants surely.
Merge by 2026.... these companies really don't understand how fast things are moving do they.
Chances are they don’t want to merge. These Japanese companies don’t work well togetherMazda got 5% equity injection from Toyota after Ford sold off its stake, but is pretty much just foundering around and doesn’t seek out greater synergies with Toyota.

Toyota owns 20% of Subaru, and they have a few common models, but for the most part there is not much cooperation.

Interestingly, when Renault signed on with Geely to cooperate on PHEV powertrains, Nissan and Mitsubishi were mentioned as possible future partners. Probably not anymore.

Anyway, 2026 is the earliest Honda even expects to have its first self-produced EV.

What happened to former Nissan CEO who escaped from Japan?

How come Honda does not merge with Mazda?

@tphuang looks like you're going to have to wait a bit longer for that Brazilian BYD plant.

has severed ties with a construction firm after Brazilian authorities halted construction of a new electric-vehicle plant where workers were found working and living in “slavery”-like conditions.
Brazilian authorities on Monday said they had rescued 163 Chinese workers building a new EV factory for BYD in the northeast state of Bahia, and ordered a halt to construction, according to a

by the Labor Prosecutor’s Office.
The Chinese EV giant has terminated ties with Jinjiang Construction Brazil Ltd. and pledged to protect the rights of subcontracted workers, the company said in a statement Monday. All workers will be transferred to hotels, it said.

“BYD Auto do Brasil reiterates its commitment to full compliance with Brazilian legislation, especially with regard to the protection of workers’ rights and human dignity,” said Alexandre Baldy, senior vice president of BYD Brasil.
Authorities shut down the accommodation sites until local regulators deem them up to standard.
BYD said it had conducted a “detailed review” in the past few weeks of working and living conditions for subcontracted employees, and had asked on “several occasions” for its construction firm to make improvements.

these are the kind of things BYD really needs to improve on. Frankly, it actually does work its employees to death at the way it's going. Apparently, a lot of people are not going to be allowed to go home for Chinese New Years.

A little more on the hard working BYD employees
996 is pretty rampant across the tech industry in China, sure it shows results, but the end point is literally a imploded society like South Korea in a population abyss.

People need time off for recreation and relaxation, they can't spend their hard earned cash to drive consumption if they're stuck in the office all the time. BYD can and should do better.
