Merge by 2026.... these companies really don't understand how fast things are moving do they.
Chances are they don’t want to merge. These Japanese companies don’t work well togetherMazda got 5% equity injection from Toyota after Ford sold off its stake, but is pretty much just foundering around and doesn’t seek out greater synergies with Toyota.

Toyota owns 20% of Subaru, and they have a few common models, but for the most part there is not much cooperation.

Interestingly, when Renault signed on with Geely to cooperate on PHEV powertrains, Nissan and Mitsubishi were mentioned as possible future partners. Probably not anymore.

Anyway, 2026 is the earliest Honda even expects to have its first self-produced EV.

What happened to former Nissan CEO who escaped from Japan?

How come Honda does not merge with Mazda?
