to accelerate the development process of new EV architecture, it said on Monday.
The new establishments, to be located in China's Guangzhou and Hefei, are warehouses for engineers from both parties to work together.
The warehouses are aimed at helping the parties begin production for jointly-developed architecture - configuration of electronic components, modules, and network within a vehicle - two years from now.
"From 2026, all electric vehicles of the Volkswagen brand in China will be equipped with this very powerful and efficient architecture," said Ralf Brandstätter, member of the board of management of Volkswagen AG for China.

This is interesting
Right now VW uses MEB for EV in China which underpins models from both VW and Audi (ID3, ID4, and Q4/Q5 which is really a Q4-LWB)
MEB is the volume platform for VW. Chinese sales are 30% of VW global EV sales, so you cannot simply move the Chinese cars to a completely separate platform without affecting your production efficiencies, so it will be interesting to see how XPeng shapes the future development in the West. Perhaps it is so modularized that China just gets better cars.
