Not a problem those EV cars made in Mexico will simply go south.
American ban on Chinese EV cars might help to shield their automakers from competition in the short run but in the long run their automakers will fall further behind on EV technology as these bans will slowdown the adaptation of EV cars in America. And they will see their overseas market for their automakers shrink as they cant keep up with the new technology and consumer preferences.
It will be very similar to how the Jones Act slowly destroyed the American shipbuilding industry. The Jones Act required all cargo shipped between US ports to be carried by ships built in America, fully crewed by Americans, and owned by American firms. Not only was the Jones Act bad for the US shipbuilding industry, it also broadly damaged overall US competitiveness.
The US is blessed with the geographic advantage of having long coast lines (Atlantic, Pacific and Gulf of Mexico coasts) as well as amble navigable internal waterways (Mississippi river, Great Lakes). Before the Jones Act, US industry enjoyed the advantage of having cheap and easy logistics through shipping by sea. Yet today, it is far cheaper to move goods between cities on the US East Coast using trucks travelling on the notoriously congested highway I-95 than shipping by sea.
