I'm still curious, does MG/SAIC have any non-luxury SUV model built on an EV platform a la the MG4? Because at least here in Australia MG absolutely dominates the ICE budget SUV segment with the ZS, so they really should introduce a comparable cheap dedicated EV model to keep up their advantage.

WCF is visiting Latin America over next few days. First stop is Chile, will be meeting with Boric tomorrow. And then headed to Brazil for the opening of new BYD plant in Bahia. Unclear if he will meet with Lula again or if he will visit other countries. Keeping my eyes open

I maybe repeating myself, but looks like the Ulanqab cloud data center that Huawei opened up in July is designed for cars. 2 EFLOPS of computation there. This should support ADAS training and other LLM training. It's unclear to me who has signed up for this data center

I think MG will do well in most ex-british colonies and some european countries. The MG badge is incredibly influential in terms of aesthetics. Cars that feel like garbage with baojun logos look decent with an MG badge

Brand recognition is huge. In my reading of Australian reviews of Chinese and other vehicles over the years (primarily from Drive and CarExpert), the evaluation of MGs seems in-line with the evaluation of other Chinese vehicles. For ICE vehicles I feel I could write such a review in my sleep:

"<Chinese ICE car> offers great value for money with an impressive equipment fit and features list generally only found in vehicles from other nations that are $10-$20k more expensive. The interior makes a good impression. Real world fuel consumption is unimpressive, there is a minor annoyance with the transmission behaviour, while suspension is overly soft for Australian road conditions. Some of the fancy electronic features appear unrefined or overly intrusive and we hope those can be ironed out with future software updates. 7/10."

The advent of Chinese EV's has altered this standard analysis somewhat: common drivetrain complaints are eliminated, while most have been praised for their handling. On the other hand, complaints about less than fully mature software features are up. I recall specifically in relation to the Atto 3, reviewers felt the standard Atlas Batman tyres were the limiting factor on its performance. Contrast with MG which is fitting Bridgestone Turanza tyres (same as Toyota fits to best-selling RAV4) to MG4. BYD Australia (i.e. EVDirect) opting for cheaper tyres is one of those minor things that leaves a sour taste in the mouths of prospective buyers and makes them wonder where else corners are being cut.

Also, I posted here a few weeks back saying that GWM's poor local performance with the Ora EV (read: Good Cat) could be improved simply by letting folks know that it exists. So imagine my /facepalm today when I read of an EV Driving Experience event to be held in my city's CBD a few weeks from now with 19 EV models on display or available for test drives, and that GWM will not be there. BYD, MG, Kia, Ford, BMW, Porsche, Nissan... no GWM. Huge missed opportunity.

They're being driven by proud Vietnamese-Canadians

I don't know if the car is as bad as the reviews make it out to be. However, you have to be really proud to take an $80,000 risk.
Even in PRC, domestic brands only very recently outsold foreign brands for the first time. You work hard for your money, right?

Slightly bigger and upmarket, but I guess that's what they want to get first.

on MMW radar, there is the emergence of 4D MMW radar

new Chinese startup Altos Radar (傲图科技) says it has started to mass produce 4D MMW radar

4D MMW radar has advantage over 3D MMW in speed, distance & direction

I believe BYD Fudi is also working on this but so far their latest is RF1 MMW radar which operates in 77-81GHz range instead of the 1st gen RB1 MMW radar, which operates in 24GHz range.
