why would Chinese govt not want Chinese business to succeed in America? Day after day, I come to this forum and people are here are always concerned that these business are going to get taken advantage of. That they can't take care of themselves.

If these businesses are such wall flowers and need your protection, they don't deserve to stick around.
Xi Jinping very specifically spoke to CATL chairman about the risks:

This is a warning directly from the general secretary, I don't know how much clearer the signal from the government can be.

A warning to be careful and that's that. In the end, is Chinese gov't stepping in? I don't think so.

Why don't you tell me how CATL could lose out here? Does Ford have a huge chemistry department with LFP experience. Is CATL just handing them over technology without any supervision? Has CATL stopped developing newer and better LFP chemistry? Whose supply chain will Ford use if it goes alone?

I don't think technology transfer is an issue, but I do think once the JV is up and running the Americans may try to nationalize it or force CATL to sell their share at discount or other similar financial harassment. Yes it will hurt Ford too, but current chip war is also hurting Intel/Nvidia/Qualcomm yet it rages.

CATL doesn't own any part of the factory. It's licensing the technology to Ford. Ford owns the plant 100%

There is always this freakout by people that somehow other country will steal Chinese tech, because China managed to copy other country's tech. Like, it is that easy to do it.

Now, let me ask you something, the plant is owned by Ford. CATL is just providing the technology know how. So what are you concerned with? That Ford starts making its own LFP batteries with chemistry that's 2 or 3 years behind using supply chain dominated by Chinese companies?

All these freakouts day after day, can people spell out why these things are bad other than association with America or India?
The danger is that US/India decides to sabotage CATL/BYD's investments for x national security reason. That's a lot of money down the drain to learn a lesson that should be obvious by now.

I'm not worried about the US (let alone India) catching up to China on battery technology. Once China takes a lead in a technology, it tends to run with it.

This car is interesting to me. With dimensions of 5270/2000/1500mm, it's even larger than the Nio ET7 and it looks so European. What's more interesting is that it has the range up to 1020km per charge and go up to 300km with 10 minutes charge.

where is the money draining coming from? The factory investment comes from Ford.
