The US has Tesla and several other EV startups. It is Japan that is truly and well screwed.
I would not put that much faith in Germany either. They are behind in the hardware, and Germans aren't that good at making the kind of software required in cars in the first place.

I prefer Volkswagen's infotainment over Tesla.

In general, I find Tesla's interior and software design highly unorthodox, almost to the detriment of the driver.

I do agree that Germany is behind though. ID.4 (what a dumb name) is at least a generation behind its competitors IMO.

Which reviews? Didn't even know there was a Vietnamese car being reviewed lol.

Also something to keep in mind, American reviewers tend to be car enthusiasts who naturally focus on things like driving dynamics and responsiveness, which are not necessarily the most important traits in a vehicle that's designed for hauling, commuting, or otherwise, given a certain budget.

Just looked at a

Interesting...
This video comes to mind... 3.5M views is reaching quite a wide audience. They test out a few claims made by online reviews and it does not paint a good picture for vinfast despite some claims being shown to be overstated/situational.

Of course this is not at all authoritative, but its giving a generalised view of what consumers think of Vinfast cars in the US.

Are there any Vietnamese friend that could give us some real Vinfast data here? I think it’s not really fair to criticize the company for doing bad in the US , that’s a relatively more competitive market after all,I’ve seen some traveling vlogs in Vietnam, there are quite some Vinfast cars in Vietnam, it seems that they are doing great at home.
Maybe it’s a personal thing but I tend not to criticize Vietnamese for them being so far the most practical people in the SEA.
Vinfast is basically Vietnamese version of Evergrande Henchi created by Vingroup, the biggest real estate developer in Vietnam, that could tell you something. Vinfast has no tech, virtually no experiences making cars, basically all their components are imported from China and EU, which does not give it any price advantages whatsoever. Vinfast can't compete in SEA market with Chinese players in terms of quality, tech and prices, and it can not compete with Tesla and other big legacy OEMs when they sell their cars at a premium price In the North America and EU. Their US factory is more like a fantasy now with its failed IPO. Its only market is Vietnam due to high import tax, which makes importing car several times more expensive. But I doubt Vinfast can survive in the next 2~3 years, the Vietnamese market is just too small.

Vietnam has close to 100 million people, larger than Germany.

There's a rather high portion of population of Vietnam can afford a car but not many of them own one. The main reasons behind this is traffic. Vietnamese cities, like Ho Chi Minh city and Ha Noi, has one of the worst traffic in the world. Another problem is not enough parking spaces. When you reach your destination, it's very hard to find a parking space and when you get home, there's also nowhere to park the car for the night.
