imo, this is a big deal. Locking up access to Argentina Lithium and ensures that they go through Chinese processing/refining technology. Remember, Argentina has large reserves than Chile & Australia

The minister discussed the “explosion” of the hydrocarbons sector with Vaca Muerta, and forecasted “a turnaround” of the country’s economy in three years due to lithium exports.

Massa said Argentina’s prospects are shifting, from being “an energy importer to a net energy exporter”, with the potential to export US$ 20 billion worth in the hydrocarbons sector alone over the next three years.
yeah Argentina needed the money and expertise and China is gladly able to take advantage of it.

For the people who know the market in China, why do people even want Teslas? I’ve driven them before and quite frankly its a bit of a gimmick to me.

Quality is variable due to shit QC. The actual car itself probably has the best range and handling, but the value proposition is crap. I’d rather wait for better prices or better made vehicles.

The new steering wheel is quite frankly weird. The lack of physical controls is a downside… I mean, it’s an interesting vehicle and I understand why many of my fellow middle class Americans are obsessed with it, but why would this fad have traction in China?

Y’all are spoiled for choice and Tesla still sells as well as it does?

Plenty of people in China believe in foreign brands.

It hasn't always been like this, only last 2 years or so has Chinese EV industry exploded. In comparison the model 3 has been in market since 2017 so tesla has massive first mover advantage. While tesla cars has its faults, it was the only real options if you wanted an EV for a long time.

You will also see that now Chinese car brands are slowly dislodging foreign JV from their top spots, things just take time.

yep, first mover advantage is huge. Right now, Tesla is the default option for 200 to 300k segment, especially after the price cut.

BYD is the default option in the sub 200k market.

Li Auto and Denza are the default options in the 300k+ NEV market

TBH, Teslas, despite all its flaws, still are good products in general ,they are elegant designs,

the first byd rubik's cube ESS has already been installed in Yueyang, Huan for their local grid

As renewable energy usage increase, the demand for ESS will be huge and all over the country. It will usher in loads of opportunities for BYD and other ESS makers
