The key difference is those companies had a product. They were actually selling something commercially. This startup has nothing. No product. How much attention is possible when they don't even have anything to sell? Who cares enough to raise an flag on this minor company?

Their channel on YT consists only of 2 videos. Their puff piece with nothing of substance which had 82k views and was uploaded 11 years ago. Their battery cutting demonstration for 4 years ago only has 1.4k views. In that video, they're cutting a 10 mAh battery.

Did you notice the size of the battery? Based on their finger and probe, that battery is roughly 120 x 120 x 3 mm. 10mAh is pitiful for that size. I can get a 3200 mAh battery that only takes up 97 x 92 x 2.3 mm (LP239792) which is still smaller than that.

Here's an interview with Prieto's CEO in Dec 2021, so about 1.5 yrs ago.

He says their lifetime is "thousands of cycles" (notice no actual number here) but targeting (so not actually rearched yet) at least 3000 cycles for automobile-applications.
For comparison the BYD Blade, which is an actual product that is actually being used in cars today, was released in 2020 (3 years ago) with a lifetime of 3000+ cycles (minimum of 60% capacity left after 3000 cycles). An actual product vs vaporware.

In that same interview, he mentions they didn't even have a prototype until 2020. But wait, their battery-cutting video was from 2019 so what were they even cutting? Then, he says they don't have any manufacturing plant and would have their first design by April or May next year (that means 2022). ... It's the end of May 2023 now, still no pilot plant. According to their press from 6 days ago, they're still looking for a site.

Oh and here's another interview with their CEO, this time from 2 months ago.
In this interview, he states they're 2-3 years out from commercialization and targeting 2025-2026. And this is based on his expectation that the US government is going to start subsidizing and producing batteries in the USA. This is how they plan to get their cathode source.

You came here and claimed the Chinese EV giants, which are globally known, were falling behind compared to a no-name no-renown startup that literally has no product and has been in development hell for almost 2 decades. When shown that it's vaporware, you asked why no one raised any red flags about the company. It's vaporware how do you raise a red flag on a product that doesn't even exist. It's also a no-name company so who cares.
Why are some of the people here and elsewhere are so easily taken by the next best thing that usually comes out from companies (usually from the U.S.) that spout extraordinary claims like Theranos, Nikola (electric truck), etc...which were later to have been proven to be nothing but vaporware and lies. Some of us then spews doom and gloom on China then it becomes political like China's political system is the culprit to the so-called innovation backwardness contradicting the level of success China has been achieving. Some of us are so taken by the West shiny values and political grandstanding that it frankly comes across to me as SEVERE INSECURITY per my observation.

Germany's total debt (private+public) as a percentage of GDP is lower than China's despite having a per capita income about 4X higher. Some of the takes on this forum are pretty hilarious.
Is this true? According to this source (

), Germany's total debt is 651.8% of its GDP. According to this source (

Also, China's total external debt is 13.6% of its GDP whereas Germany's is 169.4% of its GDP, according to this source (

Is super fast charging actually such a desirable feature for EVs? I think setting our expectations to something like 80% in 15 minutes is more productive, since:
  1. Everyone charging at 300kW at the same time is going to blow up the local power grid, especially so for chargers in apartment block carparks
  2. The additional cooling involved with such a high power transfer is bad for the battery and requires additional cooling
  3. Most people can take 15/20 minutes out of their week to sit around and play with their phone while their car charges
I think focusing on safety, capacity and cost is more important for mass adoptation of EVs.

The trend is to go for fast charging and solve the problems that come with it.

Why did you have to feel so doomed so easily whenever someone brought up something novel from a non-Chinese company? How do we know whether it is legit or not? It is up to us to discuss in a rational, non-emotional way to clear things up. If it will pose a challenge to the Chinese concerns, isn't it logical to suggest they need to pull up their socks?

Are Chinese companies leading in every field of technology? Remember ChatGPT? Oh yeah, it's useless, doesn't count.

Since China has $3.1 trillion (800 billion in US dollars) foreign exchange reserves, external debt doesn't matter. As for internal debt, Chinese government controls the People's Bank of China and its monetary policies, when push comes to shovel, bad debt denominated in China's own currency (RMB/CNY) can be forgiven. Germany has no such privilege because European Central Bank is supposed to be independent and is not controlled by any country.

Umm yes. It is.

It's not an AI model that's being used for some inherent productive purpose. It's mostly just a development and demonstration vehicle. You don't actually think that OpenAI's plan for generating future revenue is to charge a $20 subscription for a language model do you?

Umm? Why are Chinese companies coming out with their own now? It's not perfect and we know that. Never heard of first mover, first edition, etc? That is the first step and it was not a Chinese company that introduced the first one. Didn't you read people here and elsewhere asking why it was not a Chinese company?

If it was useless, why are people still using it? You can get good answers for quite a lot of things about daily life, FYI.

It will improve with time.
