BYD is doing more than just putting on a good show. It’s drawing interest from governments in central and southern Europe that are eager to land investment from the company, which is contemplating manufacturing cars locally as relationships between China and western countries that are threatened by its rise turn increasingly fraught.
“Some of the countries are very detailed,” Michael Shu, general manager and managing director of BYD Europe, said of offers it’s getting to help address the company’s needs for labor, land, energy, construction and an ecosystem of nearby suppliers. “Even in China, we don’t have such a kind of investing in the service.”

Yes, BYD needs to build a plant in Europe if it wants to be of relevance there. This is the European fear and Japanese/Koran fear. That China comes and deindustrialize the few industries they have left. This is a horrible reality for Europeans. The least BYD and CATL can do is to build factories in Germany or other places.

Btw, this is another reason why BYD going into America is not a good idea. You don't want US gov't to laser focus on your company. I've given up hope on NIO management doing any smart sensible actions. But at least they will probably get crushed and bought out someone.

anyhow, it's kind of interesting that the majority of Chinese EV market is between 100 to 300k RMB

I think it's because BYD hasn't really started to expand in the higher end yet. That will happen soon. Compared to other countries, EVs are the high end models. This shows how brutally competitive the Chinese EV market is.

New NEV registration numbers. Last week was really low due to week long holiday.

This week, the BYD numbers are so much higher than everyone else. I think they will probably hit 220k sales this month. Notice how Tesla barely had any registrations? Their production is probably getting exported.

They actually signed something about this in March of this year. Now, we have confirmed that BYD cars can access Shell charging stations. That's a big bonus.

This is from earlier this year

looks like they added more charging piles, since 275k became 300k.

Macron visited BYD stand at Paris Motor show. My guess is that BYD has to open some kind of manufacturing facility in France or Germany.

CATL to supply over 1.4 GWh batteries to Primenergy. This is another reason CATL will definitely build a battery plant here in North America.

While U.S. companies such Primenergy are not worried about the Biden regime's high tech war against China at all, some other companies, such as GM, don't seem to think so. Otherwise, why will they go all in with LG Energy Solution's inferior batteries instead of using better choices from China?

While 39,855 units from BYD were registered, only 1,724 from Tesla were registered.

China's NEV makers have arrived in Europe.

Lithium miners are really profitable now.

For Tesla Shanghai, the first two weeks of production each month is mostly for exports. The next two weeks is for domestic sales. It has been like that for many months. That does not mean tesla sales is falling that fast necessarily.

Germany is probably too expensive even with their huge numbers of skilled numbers. Also should take into account their CIA-Greens. Could easily sabotage them with environmental or "genocide" stuff.

France, most likely no. Its labour laws are way too much. However on other aspects it is ok, especially it seems to be more independent. So if Macron could provide hefty subsidies and solid legal guarantees that the factory wouldn't close every week due to protests then BYD could consider setting up a factory there. This would be a great boost for them politically in Europe

And as usual, Eastern Europe is imo the best place for automakers. Poland would be ideal as their close distance to German means that supply chains and labour is a lot more developed there than in other Eastern European countries. Coupled with cheaper labour, and lax regulations, Poland would be great

Meh, the greens are going to get wiped out in the next election. This pro war, anti energy, anti Germany stance is going to get them kicked out of the government. German industries are melting down. We probably will see a more right wing nationalistic coalition to replace them. Which in general is not great for china, but they will love manufacturing jobs.

Poland would have been the logical location except the public has really turned against china due to the Russia Ukraine conflict.

Europe is what it is. If you want Europe to not turn against your company, then you have to have a factory in France or Germany.
