Re: chain armour

There is nothing surprising at all. China armour had been imported into China in 718. Not widely used, but that doesn't mean ancient China do not have it. China have been actively trading with countries like Persia and Rome since ancient time.

Plus chain armour do not originated from Persia. It was introduce to asia by the Roman.

Chain mail is excellent against slashing attacks but less so against projectiles/thrusting attacks. Given how spears were the most common armament of Chinese footsoldiers it is no surprise that chainmail didn't catch on. Besides it is just too time consuming making chain mail any ways.

Re: new 30mm external gun system

there seems to be a ATGM mounted to the left of the gun too. i have to agree this is probably an upgrade for the current IFV or a prototype for a new generation of IFV

Re: chain armour

I believe the Chinese used a mail-like armor but was unique called Shan wen kia (Mountain Pattern Armor), but alas not examples of it exist anymore =(

Good read for info on it

Re: new 30mm external gun system

Looks like it can be controlled from within the vehicle

The ATGM looks like 9K11 Malyutka or its variants from the appearance.

Re: chain armour

Shanwenjia was more scale armor than it was Chainmail.
Yeah but that scalemail was probably the closest thing to chainmail that the we know Chinese used. No doubt they had access to it, either from Persians or Japanese but not very much in pictures or records of them using them in their armies.

Are you saying that suozijia that we read about in Chinese military fictions are in fact the same thing as Shanwenjia?

Re: new 30mm external gun system

according to steven zaloga "BMP-1" (osprey books),standard soviet procedure was to mount the missile only in the eve of combat, main reason, if the missile is hit,and explode and could damage the turrent.
that why bradley carry there TOW inside the armour box launcher.
during the 10/1 parade, surprise is that China still using sagger ARGM, while it cheap, it already obsolete, the missile was not even provide armour plating, any hit fragment, or bullet will surely trigger the explosion.

they might be there just for display purposes. in the parade the vehicles had white-walled wheels too. i dont think i've come across an exercise photo there the turrets had external ATGM mounted
