They have ditched the red underwear for this movie.

The ditching of the red undies was one of the biggest hooplas when the first posters and trailers of man of steel came out.

Personally I think MoS will be very good. Him punching Zod and his goons into supersonic speeds sold it for me. With Zack Snyder directing and the guiding hand of Nolan, and with so much mythology and backstory to work with, I'll be amazed if they somehow screw it up.

For one they might try to take the film too seriously when doing the "realistic approach" to super man. At the end of the day the story is still about a solar powered extraterrestrial who could lift falling planes. Superman, unlike Batman, is not a dark character, and I hope that the film reflects this. It should be about optimism and hope instead of being too broody and intellectual.

That, or Jon Peters actually had creative control over just 1% of the script.

Just my take.

You're right they did ditch the red underwear. But they replace it with a sort of blue jock strap and cup attached to the tight blue leotard and red boots. He looks like a he just came out from a gay pride parade (nothing against LGB or anything) in San Francisco.

I don't think they'll necessarily make it super intellectual or brooding just because it involves nolan.

But I think it definitely won't be the tone of the old superman movies. Just like how the dark knight trilogy was so well received because of the portrayal of batman in gotham and the overall mood (from his gadgets, vehicles and villains), I think man of steel will fulfill our expectations with how a modern superman story should be told, namely his origin story and just how powerful he actually is, as well as some more philosophical humanity reflecting moments.

The parts in the trailer with Zod and his henchmen taking on the US air force and superman punching fools supersonic are just some of the things which modern CGI can make look convincing. And that visual element will be one of the aspects working for this reboot I think.

Myself, my two sons. one of my son-in-laws, and two friends are all going to see Man of Steel together on Saturday at 2PM.

Over in Guam it has already started showing and friends have told us that it is awesome.

Heck, I have watched the incarnations and development of the Superman story since I was a young kid in the late 1950s.

Think about that boys...50+ years of watching it develop. All the comic books, cartoons, TV shows, and movies. We know all about his background and the various off shoot developments over that time.

All of us are looking forward to this movie. The trailers so far (and over the last year) have wet our appetites and we're all excited to see if the impressions our friends overseas have had will be matched by our own.

superheros made into movies is hard to do. the hit and miss ratio is almost 50:50. I never liked the captain America character but I was pleasantly surprised by the movie. I can't believe I actually liked it and will see a sequel when they make another one. on the other hand daredevil is one of my favorite characters but they totally killed it when they made the movie starring ben Affleck (no more action films for this guy please!). so i'm really want to see how they do a modern day superman once again after the 70's with Christopher reeve.

Christopher Reeve (R.I.P):( was the best Superman IMO. I grew up watching him as a kid. His persona and acting really brings out the story of one man with two characters (the Super hero and Clark) to play with.

has changed over the years as has Sup himself.
The first version for example had a black background for the Red Sheild, the curent version also lacks the red-y Tighties and has a turttle neck collar. it even looks to have padding in the joints Apparently it's Kryptonian armor... Odd as sups is suposedly untouchable.

I think that the Krytonian Armor is there for realism. Ever wondered how normal fabric could survive the same kind of stress (extreme heat, impact, etc.) that Superman could survive? There is a scene in the trailer when Clark is shirtless because he was literally on fire while rescuing people from a burning oil derrick.

Movie Theater Ticket Prices Could Reach $150, Says George Lucas
By Susanna Kim | ABC News Blogs – 1 hour 55 minutes ago...

"Going to the movies is going to cost you $50, maybe $100, maybe $150," says George Lucas, the creator of " Star Wars" and founder of Lucasfilm, which is now owned by the Walt Disney Co., ABC's parent company.

Lucas and director Steven Spielberg talked about the future of entertainment while on a panel at the University of Southern California Thursday.

Spielberg said studios were increasingly putting money into "mega-budget" movies, causing a tectonic shift in the entertainment industry.

"There's eventually going to be an implosion, or a big meltdown," Spielberg said. "There's going to be an implosion where three or four, or maybe even a half-dozen mega-budget movies, are going to go crashing into the ground, and that's going to change the paradigm."

Spielberg said his own Oscar-nominated movie "Lincoln" was "this close" to being produced for HBO.

Michael Corty, senior equity analyst at Morningstar, said Spielberg's comment highlights the success of HBO over the years, and cable networks' ability in general to allow for longer storytelling and in-depth character development. The HBO series "Game of Thrones," based on a book series, is one example.

"If you have an idea where you can delve into characters with a longer time frame, it's more economical to do it on cable, and it's faster," Corty said.

"Behind the Candelabra," the recent HBO movie about the life of pianist Liberace that Steven Soderbergh directed, was a relatively low-budget movie with strong star power intended for adult audiences that hit homes instead of theaters.

The historical drama "Lincoln" was nominated for several Oscars this year. Daniel Day-Lewis won for best actor, and the movie itself won the Oscar for best production design.

"If Spielberg has an idea like 'Lincoln', he would have never considered in the past something like HBO, but HBO has done such a great job and has a long history of monetizing content in a fantastic way," Corty said. "It's an option maybe he wouldn't have thought of 10 years ago."

Spielberg implied that movies with bigger budgets might cost more to see in the theater.

"You're going to have to pay $25 to see the next 'Ironman.' And you're probably only going to have to pay $7 to see 'Lincoln,'" Spielberg said.

Corty said differentiated pricing according to the movie's budget makes "economic sense."

"[Spielberg's] example seemed extreme at the high end, " Corty said, "but it makes sense that over time, you would have differentiated pricing depending on the film."

What's up with Hollywood? Fact is no one will pay that much just to watch a movie especially when there's no guarantee it will be good. They already see it now with lower box office because there will be alternatives to watching these movies. There are lot of stories lately about Hollywood stamping and pouting about how China doesn't obey their wishes. Maybe it's just the entertainment news media but they act like Hollywood owns China and Chinese have stolen their property. They bring up a lot about China opening two Hollywood movies on the same day. I didn't see anyone complaining that Hangover 3 and The Fast and the Furious 6 opened on the same day in the US. Now they don't like how cheap Chinese domestic movies are making huge money and beating Hollywood movies in China. It's like they think dominating China is their right. Is that the type of arrogance that makes them think people will pay $150 to watch a movie.

MAN OF STEEL

Ok, Man of Steel, was AWESOME. A must see, five stars. My two sons, a son-in-law, a grandson, and I all went to see it together. Theater was full at the 3 PM matinee today.

There are some areas not exactly in line with the traditional Superman storyline, but then, particularly back in the Kripton stages, there are numerous storylines from the old comic books. Kal-El, Jopr-El, Lara Lor-Van, Zod, Faora-Ul, the Kents...all GREAT! Also a few weaknesses that leave you wondering...but the action, the cinematography, special effects, the blanks it fills in, and the way it goes about telling the story and providing the background are outstanding. I say definitely go and see it.
