This is the same war where the Americans gave orders to “advance to the rear” in some weird newspeak when they had to retreat from the Chinese onslaught.
When you take a comfortable nap at IKEA and think Sweden is heaven...

Young Chinese are moving to Sweden in record numbers, seeking better labor conditions and a more tolerant society. Many are underwhelmed by what they find.

But after they arrive, they often realize life here is more complicated than it appears on social media. For some young Chinese, it can be a painful realization — one that forces them to reassess not only their views on Sweden, but on their own country.

“Sweden isn’t as chill as I expected,” said Wang, who spoke with Sixth Tone under a pseudonym to protect her privacy. “I’m not enjoying my life here.”

Cold reality

For Wang, one of the biggest surprises was Sweden’s high cost of living. It has been a “tough six months” for Sweden, she said, with inflation running at over 10%. Many of the things Wang used to do without thinking in China — from eating out, to getting a takeout coffee — she now has to avoid to save money.

Dark times

Every Swedish winter, however, tests the mettle of Chinese expats living here. In January, the sun sets before 3 p.m. in Stockholm; in northern Sweden, it never rises at all. The lack of daylight makes the body secrete less melatonin, which can

insomnia and depression.
Thinking Sweden is the bees knees is very bourgeoisi. The only Americans who believe it tend to be northeastern WASP females and gender Studies majors and thirsty men who think they’re going to find Malin Ackerman. Things is, they do find Malin Ackerman types who will have sex with everyone but them.

The Nordics as a whole in this period of history are simply Anglo colonies. Finnish as a language could well go extinct given the cultural genocide of English in the country, but despite it all, the entire Nordic nations are characterised by a smugness that I find…amusing, given how much of a backwater they actually are.

Compare this to say, Poles and Czechs who live in the equivalent of European Thailand (bucks nights often go to Prague for the amount of pornography filmed there) who slavishly accept their inferior status and role to the anglos. The nordics know the anglos revere them as a ’master race’, the Slavs hope to become more Anglo.
And yes, I purposely applied an orientalist lens to the Europeans, how a sexpat would speak of Chinese and Japanese, I speak of Europeans and anglo Americans.

reminder that US GDP is suspect considering they Count broken windows and equivalents towards GDP.

Right now, Western society is split in half, the haves and have not.
Sweden and Scandinavia not as bad some others. I fully expect flow of people to Nordic countries to increase with more openings. airline business will be booming connecting continents.

Being young, they should go discover the world. However, being young, means they don't have that knowledge.

It says social media and influencers are providing the information. some one with student expenses should not expect living standards of a working person. It is a second Master degree.

On Chinese social media, Scandinavia is often portrayed as a socialist utopia — a place where women’s rights are respected, parents of young children receive lavish support, and the working culture is relatively relaxed. What better place to start over?

Wang began following a few Chinese influencers living in Sweden, and she was captivated by what she saw. Last year, the Jiangsu province native took the plunge: She quit her job, moved her life to Stockholm, and began studying for a second master’s degree in the city.

I hate to say it but the Chinese people-often women - who praise Sweden and Scandinavia, or the West in general do so because they wish to escape their filial responsibilities.
It is not because they are drawn to the 'freedoms' of scandinavia because scandinavia is anything but free, societywise they are horrendously uniform where Tall Poppy syndrome abounds. THere's a reasson why

is a thing in the scandics. Chinese women who worship the West, and scandinavia especially are merely aping their new york friends/american/anglo colleagues in their desires for nordic styles, fashion and lifestyles.
Things that these women would not be able to get away with were they to be married to a Chinese or even an Asian man, they can get away with poor behaviour if they were married to a western man because there's no Chinese mother in law nor Chinese husband to judge her.

Yoon's "performance" is deeply humiliating for a lot of Koreans.
The westerners must think that because Korean people like karaoke and kpop it must be okay for Biden to make Yoon sing. After all, according to Korean business culture, higher-ups make underlings sing and dance for them at group events to liven the atmosphere. By singing, Yoon properly plays his role of the court jester. His domestic audience will applaud him for entertaining the white man so well.

Scandinavian society works for people who prefer standardisation and dependability it's essentially a virtuous cycle between society and it's people, the welfare nanny state will take care of your survival instincts in return for your compliance and contribution to the system if you are an introvert career focused person with simple hobbies then it's for you, Hikikomoris would appreciate and may even thrive in a nordic society on the other hand Chinese social cycle works by creation of social networks and both parties deriving something beneficial usually money from it, Italy is the closest Western society in that respect but unfortunately current climate isn't exactly ideal especially since post Covid

The funny thing is even if Ukraine did get A10s, they will be using them exactly like how they currently use Su25s - as airborne MLRS, so it’s big, heavy, overhyped gun is just going to be needless dead weigh.

To try to use the gun will see those A10s shot out of the air in record breaking time.

The West thinks wishful thinking is fact. Those that try to paint a bad picture of China's economy are only trying to prevent people from putting their money in China because if it's in China, it isn't in their country. Normally it takes a couple years for the US to recover from a recession. The 2008 Western Financial Crisis was different. People were looking for safe havens for their money and China wasn't affected as much by 2008 as the West was. Usually money would just move around in another sector within the economy. People had options other than the West. That's why recovery took longer.

The US/West can't "re-shore" without it costing them more money. That means higher inflation. If they were in China for supplies, it's because it was the least expensive. Any change to that means higher costs. The lie that Westerners want to believe is outsourcing was helping poor countries by giving them jobs. No, they were there to bypass their own domestic laws they couldn't do at home and exploit people in other countries. So all this is a charade playing a game of chicken because as usual their only tactic is scaring China into surrender like they did with weak Japan, a democracy that they treated as worse than the Soviet Union. There goes their argument that this is about democracies versus autocracies. What does China and Japan have in common? They both ain't white.

Their problem is that they are young and did not have a tough upbringing like some of us, or like our parents or grandparents, to put it mildly.

You know, it would not be fair to call them spoiled, but let's face the fact that the last forty years has been the best for the masses in the entirety of Chinese history.

Being young, they should go discover the world. However, being young, means they don't have that knowledge.

Right now, Western society is split in half, the haves and have not.

What separates them is capital.

Try to explain something like that to a young person, they would have no idea what we are talking about. It is only when they feel forced to scrimp and save some money to do something, then these life lessons become clearer.

For Chinese of a different generation, going aboard to make a life for oneself, that was a noble pursuit. Today is it entirely different. Since the West has changed into a society of haves and have not, and China is right there being a high income country, the reason for a Chinese to go aboard is vastly different than previous generations.

This we all know, if we are of a certain age.

The biggest motivation I would believe to go aboard if you already got money and want an easy life, and don't mind paying some tax. Then living aboard in a wealthy Western country is quite alright. With the Chinese community being so large, it is almost like an extension of living in China, in some respects.
Yes. If you have never experienced extreme poverty, you won't understand the necessity of the lengths taken or appreciate the blood, sweat and tears that your ancestors and fellow countrymen have shed to escape from it. You won't have deep sympathy for the lower class and those still doing hard labor.

I come from a white collar background and have achieved a small understanding of what real poverty is like only after years of social, medical and rescue work in places like Oakland, Albuquerque, Flint, Detroit. I think China should encourage educators and youth to experience real poverty (ex. aid missions to poorer parts of the mainland or friendly countries). Xi's sending of party members to the countryside should just be the first step of a national initiative.

If you console an addict that has been taking opiates for so long he needs his arm and jaw amputated– hold a dead baby that is stillborn and disfigured because of poisoned water– see someone get shot and pass away right in front of you because of gang violence– then you'll learn many new things about the human condition. You will never escape from that vision of despair and suffering in your lifetime.

Our future generations should never forget the struggles that have brought them where they are now, and how easy it would be for our people to return to that state.
