Someone clearly is trying to scrap the barrel for any kind of a win but really Much of the others that are ranked above China, really the USA in terms of cusine, seriously, that greasy POS, somehow is better the Chinese cuisine, and really Greek cuisine , something that is quite obscure compared to others on the mai stream and Peru, Dafaq I can hardly find a restaurant that serves something like that so really how do they come up with this kind of crap. And anyone that puts the UK in the top thirty of the world in cuisine when the UK is literally rubbish when it comes to options and in terms of taste seriously deserves to be thrown off a cliff. I also find it extremely offensive that Italian food can somehow rank that high when really, other then Pizza and Pasta, what else is their really. How the USA is above China in cuisine honestly sickens me to the point that I would serious consider throwning an egg at a U.S. burger joint although in Melbourne, I have serious difficulty finding one, I would have to explore Zomato to find just one of these places (seriously a U.S. burger joint is the most you would find in Melbourne, their isn’t a single smoke house there and they always love to boast about those)

According to Wikipedia, Taste Atlas was started by a couple of Croatian journalists. I'm assuming it's full of prejudice much like how the Western media does with these polls. They would never get anyone to sit down or even try 95 cuisines from around the world. They probably went on the internet and looked at just pictures to judge this.

Lol, I've heard people from other parts of China disliking Cantonese food because its not spicy enough, but I've hardly heard this narrative that Cantonese people stole recipes from all over China. Like what other parts of China roast a whole pig or make wonton noodles the same way Cantonese people do? But whatever, opinions on food are just that opinions, I just don't like it when people are disrespectful.

Italian food gets ranked #1 on almost all food lists and tbf I can understand why. To preface I like eating Italian food, but Italian restaurants are some of the most overpriced on the planet when one realizes its all "nona's cooking" and anyone with some competency in cooking can make any dish served in Italian restaurants at home easily, except maybe pizza.

But really, its the one cuisine on the planet which no one has anything bad to say about. Whether you're Northern European, Latin American, American, Indian, or East Asian, there's something in Italian cuisine that everyone loves.

People might think America is a culinary wasteland, but really when you look at the proliferation of American food chains around the world, you could see why it gets a mention. McDonalds might be junk food, but its a still an undeniable sign of American influence. Plus America does have things like BBQ and Soul Food.

As for other choices yeah, what can I say? Straight up stupid. Greek, Turkish, Lebanese, or for that matter most countries that were under the Ottoman Empire pretty much eat the same food, Kebab, Baklava, yogurt, etc. so I don't get the wildly different rankings. England being ranked anywhere other than bottom is just silly. Ukraine? Pfft, if any ex-Soviet country deserves to be on that list, its Georgia. Thailand being as low as it is, eventhough Thai is one of the most respected cuisines on the planet. Yeah, dumb.

Different folks have different tastes. Below is a better survey because it takes that into account.

Uzbekistan is the #1 in terms of food among the ex-Soviet countries imo. Don't like the Eastern European food though - too bland and simple. American cuisine is a mishmash of other cuisines hence it is hard to see why it would be ranked so high. And Peruvian... no disrespect to Peruvians but I can't even name a single dish.

Italian food also borrowed plenty from other countries - e.g. the famous spaghetti came from Arabs who most likely derived them from the Chinese noodles since they were actively trading with China.

Based on those results, there might be some hope for Australia after all given their reaction to Chinese cuisine and I am a bit shocked about the reaction to Taiwanese cuisine. Not that Taiwanese food is bad but in all honesty, where I am at, I have honestly not been able to locate a good Taiwanese place to assess their cuisine very well at all. I am honestly surprised that Japanese and HK food is ranked quite poorly in Australia but then again given that Japanese food tends to be over priced and mostly focused on sushi and the ramen is overpriced like hell and how nowadays, HK in Melbourne is disappearing with Chinese cuisine rapidly taking its place and is among the most affordable (compared to others), I can honestly see why.

Others feel free disagree with me, but I'll be real frank here. I like Japanese food, however I've always felt that Japanese food's ascension into the pantheon of "prestige cuisines" nowadays, in many places superseding French as the show-off cuisine, is the best example of the power media and branding can have.

Sushi, sure its raw food so you don't want to pay pennies for it, otherwise it'll kill you. However, with the rise of sushi places charging people $600 U.S. per person, when you can honestly can get the exact same thing in most $50 per person sushi joints or high quality Japanese supermarkets, it must be said. Its sliced raw fish and sushi chefs are just overglorified butchers.

What is Wagyu but beef that's engineered to be 80% fat?

If you're going to make fun of the fact the only interesting German/Austrian food item is schnitzel I don't know why Tonkatsu, which is appropriated from schnitzel btw, deserves to be held up as something you pay top dollar for.

Other Japanese dishes, like Izakaya, is pretty simple fair. Most Dim Sum items take way more skill to make.

I will give the Japanese that Tonkotsu and Tori Paitan ramen, just because of labor exhaustive and creative the flavours are deserves to be mentioned among the greats. Sure as shit not good for you though, since those broths are so creamy precisely because they're basically liquified animal fat compared to Chinese and Vietnamese noodle soups that are much cleaner.

So in short, once again my opinion. Japanese cuisine is good, but why the handing out of Michelin stars to that country like ration cards in a warzone?
