I do think stories where China is winning are downplayed in Western/US media. For example, little is written about the new SSGN's coming out of Huludao since the first one appeared in May 2022.

Which is why they keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again with respect to China.

The best example is that you never see US media talk about what happened the last time they imposed wide ranging tech sanctions on China in the early 1990s when the US restricted the sale of telecom equipment to China. Not only did those sanctions fail to keep China out of the digital information/internet age, they led to the rapid rise of Chinese telecom equipment makers Huawei and ZTE and the demise of the once world leading North American firms Lucent, Nortel Networks, and Motorola. The irony that the current US semiconductor sanctions on China started with Huawei and ZTE, the very same firms that benefitted the most from US sanctions in the 1990s, is completely lost on Americans.

“The Chinese aren’t that interested in making a deal with us. I was there in September and they basically said, ‘You’re on a downhill path, why should we deal with you now?,’” Lewis said of talks around lowering cyberattacks. “I think the first step is to engage, warn them, and take action.”
