Western finance has a profoundly warped concept of how the world works. They think divesting makes the human and industrial capital their investment produced instamagically disappear. The part where Chinese companies pick up these assets eludes them.
They are not really. Americans like themselves for the same reason nazi Germans liked themselves. Because they're scared of retribution once the evil government is deposed, so they close ranks around their government, in full knowledge of how evil they really are.
