Did Mao based his communisim on chinese philisphy rather than Marxism. And yeah the Cultural Revolution was bad but it's leagues better than the westernization of HK and Taiwan. Because Mao isn't a cuck who wants to bow to the superpowers (USSR and USA)
Chinese proto socialism goes back to the Warring States era with Mohism and was further developed during the Han Dynasty under Wang Mang reforms and then Tang dynasty with the first public enterprises in 榷盐制.
That's not socialism. Just like nobody will call ancient Rome socialist, despite engaging in far reaching grain subsidies for hundreds of thousands and providing freshwater supplies for virtually everyone.
Rome was a slave society while China abolished slavery in the bronze age. Their grain subsidies were targeted towards maintaining social stability in the capital alone and didn't have the philosophical foundations of Mohism or Wang Mang's land reforms.

Why does the U. S. want so badly to “smooth” relations with a country whose sovereignty, progress, and influence it is determined to undermine at every turn? Perhaps what Xi “should” do, is re-establish full diplomatic interactions with the U. S. and institute a policy of bad-faith negotiations, i. e., agree to everything the U. S. wants, put-out communiques to that effect, and immediately ignore such agreements and communiques. This could presented to the non-colonized international community as the only rational and effective means by which to “relate” to the U. S.
