People are losing their minds all because they projected their nationalistic feelings onto her. They viewed her as this anti-American Chinese American who embraced her Chinese motherland since she said some stuff that pissed off some Americans. She was the symbol of the decline of self-hate and white worship in their eyes. Even Chinese state media praised her like she was a holy figure. While it is natural for people to initially assume that (I did so myself as well given the surprisingly aggressive responses she gave), her later representation of the US in 2022 should clearly show what her intentions truly are.

NATO showed first that they would support an American aggression war against China. In that situation, it makes sense to interdict NATO closer to home without costing Chinese lives before NATO can gather the resources needed to attack. It's just geopolitics.
