It's all about the countries' histories, how they are created. Singapore is a successor state of British empire. Japan and Korea have been countries of their own before meeting the west. Ethnicity means nothing of political alignment, never have been.
South Korea was much more pro-American in the military dictatorship years. The last ten years they have returned to neutral, partly because China started wielding its big stick especially over THAAD. And also because of Korean Wave pride.

For what it's worth, ordinary Singaporeans are more pro-West than the elites because of cultural indoctrination. Lee Kuan Yew enjoyed sparring with Western intellectuals. Although there is a small minority of Chinese-educated Singaporeans who have always been fervently pro-China, which kind of re-proves the cultural indoctrination point.

I think, South Koreans were much more anti-American during the dictator era than today. I remember watching TV reports of massive anti-American protests by students in the 1980s, it is many, big scale and violent. It was the military dictators being pro-American.

South Korea has a massive anti-US and anti-Send the Korean President to Jail protests every ten years. It happens cyclically for some weird reason (as an aside, every modern Korean president comes to no good end). The biggest anti-US protests were in 2002 and during the Gwangju Uprising in 1980. Chun Doo Hwan decided to suppress democratization activity through the military and this led to brutalization in Gwangju, as well as the tragic accidental stoning of a student at Yonsei in Seoul.

South Koreans then thought Chun was puppeted by the US, although he was acting autonomously (like Park Chung Hee). Hence the massive anti-American protest like the one in 2002 when American forces in Korea ran over Korean schoolgirls.

I would think most Singaporeans as sitting in the fence and are becoming more conscious of the reality. The altar of the West worshipping has fallen in recent time and ascent of China is very apparent in the eye of an average Singaporean. Of course there are those diehards that refuse to recognize reality .
Earlier last year, Singaporeans were told follow the advise of an Australian professor in Singapore as illustrated by cartoon below. Now almost everyone in the streets and shopping centres of Singapore wears mask.

No need to bother too much with soft power and all this stuff. For now the western media has a strong grip everywhere.

The only way for China to change its perception among foreign people is to just keep advancing forward, growing its economy, lifting people out of poverty, and achieving major technological and science goals.

When this happens people will naturally start liking China. Its the same playbook of the US and the Soviet Union where the SU media portrayed US as a dangerous and bad country but all the SU citizens knew the truth and wanted to leave the country and live in the US

It's like the system manages to encorporate a revolution periodically
